I get the 2009 one because it was fun in a time that all big budget action films were NO FUN ALLOWED (height of the Nolan era) so it felt like a pleasant contrast to other movies at the time. And its myriad issues are forgivable because it was trying to find its footing as a new series.
But then Into Darkness was self-referential pablum. And now this is just MEME OFF BRO in an era where were drowning in "just turn your mind off and have fun!" tier movies, so it doesn't feel like a contrast. Even normies are downvoting this shit on youtube.
So when do we get, like, an actual Trek movie again? It could cash in on the recent wave of successful sci-fi space movies like Martian and Interstellar or whatever, and be about exploration and shit. Fuck, just hard reboot it this time and make an original cast of characters but keep the old themes intact.

Times change. The thing about Star Trek was that it pandered to a very specific demographic that payed attention for years and years. Turning the franchise into mainstream action movies might make them a big buck, but the audience they try to get will find something else in a few years. There are exceptions like the James Bond films, but those reinvented themselves every ten years or so.
Eventually they will try to make a more classical Star Trek movie when the new approach dries out.
