4 billions for Lucasfilm isn't even particularly expensive given how much cash this franchise generates. He could have easily sold it for double the amount and there would still be buyers out there. He sold it to Disney by design, because he trust them and has always been a fan of them unlike other majors.
He doesn't need the new movies to succeed, he's been financially safe for decades and has an incredible stream of revenues regardless.
