The finale of Raiders of the Lost ark was flawless, kick-ass, except that one clumsy shot of a Nazi body being suspended up in the air (that clearly looks like a dummy) when the lid of the Ark gets BTFO in the sky right before it closes again.

The American version of 1984 is the only time the original movie wasn't completely superior, the speech summed up the entire point of Godzilla perfectly (of course the rest of the American version was a fucking joke)

Nature has a way sometimes of reminding Man of just how small he is. She occasionally throws up terrible offspring's of our pride and carelessness to remind us of how puny we really are in the face of a tornado, an earthquake, or a Godzilla. The reckless ambitions of Man are often dwarfed by their dangerous consequences. For now, Godzilla - that strangely innocent and tragic monster - has gone to earth. Whether he returns or not, or is never again seen by human eyes, the things he has taught us remain...
>>
>>63640709
Yeah I grew up on watching the old godzillas. Family would rent at least one every month for a while. good shit mang
>>
>>63640709
I grew up watching that movie and I disliked it even then

Manilla or whatever the fuck talking like Barney just the cherry on top of the shit sundae for me, not to mention the kid being some weird autist who harasses an innocent man at the end just to be accepted

So what's the deal with the rights to the American version? It never got a DVD release right? and now no Blu Ray release.
>>
>>63641369
Basically this is the story:

Toho knows that fans want it, they know they are losing money cuz fans bootleg it and watch it online. But because the comapny (anchor bay I think) who owned the US rights went under, there is a lot of ambiguity as to when the rights expire so toho can lease It to someone else. They want to make absolute sure no one else has any say on he is rights so they don't get sued

They literally said "you keep this thing, we keep the real godzilla".

Add to that 2 movies right after it make whole scenes just to take the piss out of it.
>>
>>63641416
That's a real shame. Its one of the first movies I can remember seeing in theaters as a kid. It hold a pretty special place in my heart.
>>
>>63641459
they backpedalled only after the critical panning

which by the way did not reflect audiences feelings, it was the most succesful monster movie by far and for years on end the #1 most rented home video worldwide

face it fanboi it's a good movie, unlike your japanese cardboard trash

What's the difference between the american and japanese versions of the 1984 movie?
I know very little about Godzilla, I've only seen the 1934, 1998 and 2014 ones. Was thinking about watching the other japanase movies (even if they're all shit).
>>
>>63641817
>1934
Meant '54, obviously.
>>
>>63641782
I don't know what you're trying to prove here. It's a better movie than anything toho has shit out for 50 years anyway.
>>
>>63641817
The differences are: the Japanese version took the effort to try and make statements about how both sides of the arms race were wrong in a way. They were both morally grey, while the us version sides with the Russia is bad approach. Also more character development.

Most of the movies are good, the best ones are:

Godzilla 1954
Invasion of astro monster
Destroy all monsters
Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 1974
Terror of Mechagodzilla
Godzilla 1984
Godzilla vs Biollante
GMK
Godzilla against Mechagodzilla (the best tbqh)
Godzilla final wars (watch after done with most/all the Japanese ones cuz a lot of homages)

They inserted new scenes of the same guy they had reshot the original movie with, he's basically watching things unfold through a monitor screen while interacting with other newly inserted American characters.

Deleted some scenes when the Japs talk political shit and deliberately made the Russians look like assholes.

They also added some humor to make the mostly serious movie feel more campy and there's lots of Dr Pepper product placement.
>>
>>63641427
Considering the original godzilla got wrecked by bathing salts, that's true.

No it was fucking not.
The editing of the nuke Collison was don't vastly better.
The 2 added tracks of music fit extremely well.
The Burr Addition gives a lot of emotional nostalgic feels.

Somewhat true. Carpenter's style just doesn't vibe with all the flashy Hollywood movies of now. Carpenter likes his long, wide angle shots and panning, hates zooming, crane shots and producers don't think today's ADHD audience has the patience for his style which is unfortunate because I think it's very cinematic.
