without memeing, this is the only part of the story i could not get behind. Schultz seemed like a smart enough fellow to overcome his pride. Throughout the movie he showed no sign of hubris to this level and here he kills himself almost willingly. Like there is no way he thinks he will not be killed for killing Leonardo DeCrapio. It just seemed like a bad decision to me, and one Schultz's character would not have made

The director thought it would show his honour and integrity to not shake a slave master's hand. He was too "good" for that.
What it actually shows is that he's a complete dumbass and in an out of character manner makes a rash, silly decision because of pride. Something he's never seem to have had a problem with earlier in the film.
His hubris was never really alluded to at all, it just sort of happened randomly.
Ultimately he just wanted to get Schultz out of the movie so Django could take the main stage. Schultz was really out-playing him, and was a more well-rounded and fun character.

Yeah me too, it had too much the message "i'd rather die than shakes a racist's and cunt hand." Come on people it was 1815, everyone liked the racist ideology. Even papa schultz treated at the begining Django like a child until he grows up mentaly 15 years in a few days.
It was not well handled. I would prefered if DiCaprio tried to backstabe them in the back at a point in the movir. It was fair sport the shaking to seal the deal

I found it funny that Monsieur Candy liked french because at the beginning of the last century frenchs theorize some ideology like the superior race have the duty to educate inferior race " Jean Jaurès (the creator of free eduction for all) actualy said that. He was a socialist. That's why the french empire and old colonies got so fucked up after the decolonisation, the anglos didn't care to "educate" the natives and destroy the tribal hierarchy. These motherfucka were always pragmatics.
One other thing Dumas is like 1/4 black what a bad exemple that was from the writter.
I loved so much about Django. I really want to pick up the bluray and watch it.
Trouble is I remember it being a bloated, horrible mess. Scenes like the KKK rally stick out to me. Fucking horrendous. Sometimes I wonder if I mistook it for another film I watched.
