I wanted this to be good. They even delayed the release of the film so it could come out during award season. Chris is a great actor; he needs prestigious films under his belt. Rush was a really good movie too. How did Ron Howard shit the bed with this.

I was always skeptical about the film since I first found out about it because a) the filter hurts my eyes, and, more importantly, b) they're hyping it as the story that inspired Moby-Dick, yet the film looks more fabulistic than that novel. Hardly realistic at all, and as a Melville fan and a /lit/fag it hurts me deeply. Also Ron Howard is extraordinarily hurt or miss, with none of his hits being too remarkable anyway. In the actual story of the Essex Nantucket, there was no mention of the whale being white. I suppose that element was only added to this to better tie it in with the novel which was inspired by this story. Also, the whale never followed them after sinking the ship.

Yes, it most definitely is.
I wanted to like this film, and overall I did but there were some faults
>Shit colour filter
>Story told through Narration, that keeps jumping back and forth
>Whales move to swiftly and nimbly under water, as if they have no weight or mass and makes them look fake
>Even the Dolphins you see, which are fast, move TOO fast when they are seen
>Very little human character building, even Chase or the Narrator has one or two memorable scenes with dialogue.
>Film is obviously about humanity learning it's true place on Earth, however this message is a little on the nose when you have the character saying it out loud that they are specks of dust on Earth.
Still though, best film I've seen this year. Had good cinematics and ideas something we know Star Wars isn't going to have.
