You are rating popular movies and common tropes within the genre itself. Someone might prefer a gangster movie to a sci-fi one simply because they inherently enjoy the subject matter more, and thus they will always prefer mob movies to sci-fi barring some exceptions.
Its not very hard to understand. You've never heard someone say "I love (insert genre here) movies"?

Despite the "lol this is literally vietnam" garbage that coppola and his PR were spouting at the time, lets be honest its basically Heart of Darkness with a vietnam paintjob.
The movie doesnt seem to give a fuck that its set in Nam and isnt pandering to any vietnam veterans. All wars are fucking terrible, Apocalypse Now deals with more general ideas not particular to any one war.
