I loved the original one, it's one of my favorite sci-fi action movies because it does it best and has the best special effects. And this is not just nostalgia speaking like the youtube comment babbies would like you to believe, the practical effects mixed with CGI are objectively better than 100% CGI. I saw Independence Day again just few weeks ago and it still holds up. Sure some of the effects are outdated, like that beginning with those cartoony shadows and that cartoony looking space backdrop, but otherwise it was all good.
The trailer makes it look like XCOM 2, except that XCOM 2 looks better. I'm still looking forward to see this one, ever since I first saw ID4 I wanted to know more about them aliens. I don't know if it's going to be as fun as the original one with them new laser weapons and hovercars and whatnot.
This is gonna be good fun.

Anyone with the right credentials could be technically an astronaut, but to be sent to space? You had to be the creme of the crop. Being among a dozen, maybe a few dozen people in space at any given time, means that anyone interested in/obsessed with space would have their eyes trained on you, and through that, you are the main representation of your space program.
You having a bad image would hurt your space program. Neil Armstrong would never have gone to the moon if he was involved with even a minor controversy at the time, nor Buzz Alrdin or anyone else.While people might write it off because it's a manga, Uchuu Kyoudai is actually a very mature series independent of the of the usual tropes, and deals with the responsibilities of being/becoming an astronaut.
