was the empire actually bad? or was it just rebel propaganda?
afaik the rebels controlled the narrative.

W-whatever you say honey badger, you're the boss, PLEASE DON'T EVISCERATE ME!
>>63618163
Well they blew up a heavily populated planet just to make an effective demonstration of their new planet destroying technology, so there's that.
>>63618542
it could have been a rebel plot, manipulating the empire in order to gain support.
Has TFA leaked yet?
>>63618668
No, they traveled to Leia's planet after capturing her and threatened it unless she'd reveal the location of their base, and she caved. They blew it up anyway. She didn't explode her own home as part of a false flag chess game.

How many?
>rules with an iron fist
Example?

>they blew it up to extract information
No, the threat was to extract information. They blew it up afterwards as a demonstration. Tarkin says so.
"You're far too trusting. Dantooine is too remote to make an effective demonstration."

black guy here, I don't get this meme.
The Empire was definitely evil, without a doubt. One thing I want to see is a portrayal of the empire from a more sympathetic point of view. Not to the point where it makes it seem like good guys all along, but a perspective that shows how people could get fooled into believing it was good or at least necessary. Something to give it more depth than "hurr durr thems the bad guize."
>>63621052
Maybe the choice was either them or commies like in pre-WWII Germany
>>63621052
>but a perspective that shows how people could get fooled into believing it was good or at least necessary
Well it was *the* government of the galaxy, so unless you were an anarchist, an outlaw or a would-be rival power (the rebels), then growing up with it would be enough to accept it. I think in the first movie Luke mentions wanting to be a imperial pilot. Han's now-erased EU backstory included him spending some time as an Imperial officer and getting cashiered.

While the Clone Wars were happening, we can clearly see Courscant, the capital of the galaxy, take little to no notice of it. Traffic is everywhere, there is a very active nightlife, and there is no hint of damaged buildings. Even as Episode 3 ends, we see the Courscant looking as good as new.
In Episodes 4-6, the only bad thing we see the empire do is blow a planet up.
So its hard to say.

Yeah, never forget the 6 billion who died on Alderaan!
