Episode 10 will make or break this entire season.
>>
>>63604771

Yeah cuz ep 9 hasn't already thrown this board into a tizzy
>>
The season is already broken after last episode.
>>
Was season 1 any good? I've watched it up to like 4th episode AFAIK i wrapped up with the episode when Lorne takes over the blackmail but never got back into it
>>
>>63604771
The first 9 have been so good I don't think ep10 can suck, but if it does the first 9 were still so great it will not ruin this season for me.
>>
>>63604771
why the fuck didnt this guy wear a beard before? it is his perfect form. Sean Connery 2.
>>
>>63604861

You should definitely finish it.
>>
As long as they do something to address the shit that betsey found in hank's room, I'll be fine with it.
>>
>>63604873
I agree. Based ted looks better with a beard.

The 1996 movie has a character named Lou working with Marge when she's investigating the bodies on the road.

He's kind of lazy, but not exactly dumb. He looks a bit too old to be Patrick Wilson ten years later, but just right for Keith Carradine twenty years ago. He has no last name and doesn't play into the movie besides asking Marge questions.

Thoughts?

>>
>>63609137
I actually liked his acting in burn notice (I thought the fact that it wasn't very good yet remained serviceable added to the charm of the show), but I agree that he was pretty shit as Dodd. It also shows that he has fuckall range.
>>
>>63615279

Also there's an ad for his practice on the door.
>>
>>63615821
The character is written to stand out from everything else and to deliver short, funny xd or quirky xd quotes, designed to be turned into memes.
An alternative is when the character is built around or spouts memes itself.
>>
>>63615924
Well that doesn't describe Hanzee at all
>>
>>63615924

>>
>>63616163
Exchange quirky quotes with "epin" "Bad ass" moments. Malvo was the biggest meme character of all but for season 2 they've seem to have split that meme character into 2. Milligan is the worst one because he has the quirky shit and also the bad ass shit. Hanzee is like some dumb anime crap but at least he isn't doing forced shit like jabberwocky.
>>
>>63616238

Oh alright, so a character, even one that is a fucking hitman in a crime drama, is never allowed to do anything perceived as "bad ass" lest they become a meme character.

Fucking idiot
>>

>>
>>63613889
Yes the dude that let the pregnant lady do all he real police work is the same Lou who breaks protocol and goes against orders to go head first into a shootout. The same dude who called someone higher up than him a "shit cop". Its almost like there's more than one lou on the planet. Does seem odd they'd use the same name though, knowing idiots like you exist, you'd think they'd make sure to cut all ties to the movie.

He's probably leaving the states, but he has to kill the people that have actually personally seen him
>>
Reminder:
anyone who think the ayylmaos are a deus ex machina know nothing about deus ex machinas. Let me elaborate.
a deus ex machina is something that is out of the left field and changes the course of the story drastically.
Episode 9 hits none of those points

>implying critics matter
>implying famous names matter

Season 1 told a concise story that was reasonable in scope. The themes were conveyed effectively and the cinematography was very well done. Season 2 has had so many lifeless shootouts and contrived mexican stand offs that all tension is lost. We're introduced to interesting characters who are killed off in a couple of episodes for no reason. Character motivations are muddled and the story with Meth Damon and his wife trying to keep their heads above water is just a rehash of Lesters arc in season 1 without any thought put into how it ties in thematically with the rest of the season. Don't even get me started on the fucking aliens.

How you can't see the drop in quality is beyond me
>>
>>63618265
It saves Lou, and also confirms the existence of otherworldly beings.
>>
>>63618265
>>63618314
it means that fucking aliens exist in the fargo universe and Lou only survived because the fat retard was distracted

>>
>>63618343
>We're introduced to interesting characters who are killed off in a couple of episodes for no reason
umm.... not a whole lot of characters have died until episode 9, excluding 2 people
>Character motivations are muddled and the story with Meth Damon and his wife trying to keep their heads above water is just a rehash of Lesters arc in season 1 without any thought put into how it ties in thematically with the rest of the season
except it ties in perfectly with the themes this season is showing. The aliens fit with the theme too

>umm....
literally reddit, no wonder you like this shitty show

>>
>>63618343
There's nothing concise and reasonable about magic demonic hitmen getting away with miraculous crimes (including single handedly murdering an entire police station), fish falling from the sky, machine gun battles in the street, pointless time jumps, and I could keep going but I won't. There also were no themes to the first season that weren't poor facsimile's of the Coen brothers themes. I would even argue that there were no discernible themes aside from baby's first nihilism argument.
>>
>>63618475
>umm....
>literally reddit, no wonder you like this shitty show
you are literal cancer and are the type of person as to why we can't have actual discussions.
>>
>>63618358
>>63618409

and now we're back to the circular arguement that lou didn't necessarily need the ufo intervention to be saved, and that it doesnt explicity confirm that the aliens are real because we can not tell if that is really what is happening

furthermore, even if it does confirm the existence of ayy lmaos, that still has no bearing whatsoever on the rest of the franchise

there are no new arguments being presented here at all, just repeating the same misconceptions about a show that was specifically designed to not have all the answers
>>

Keep doing the mental gymnastics to justify how aliens existing isn't a big deal and isn't the stupidest thing ever in a show called Fargo. Also, unreliable narrators don't let you off the hook for shitty writing, in fact in most cases they are prime evidence of it.

How is it shit writing? also how are aliens a big deal if its likely not actually what they saw. remember this is the 70's. The aliens are there for a deeper purpose. The theme of this season is along the lines of (excuse my poor wording) outsiders coming in
>>

>>
>>63618775
Do you honestly want me to sit here and list off all the themes in season 1?

Good vs Evil - obvious
Good being unable to comprehend evil - obvious
Strength of spirit is found in unlikely places - obvious again

Are you finished being BTFO now?
>>
>>63618822
if the show takes place in the 70s, and the first season and movie take place after it, and they make no mention of ufo sightings, then how could the concept of extraterrestrial life existing ever be a big deal?
the entire thing is done so outlandishly that the viewers are meant to question if that is really what is happening, especially since they put "based on a true story" on it,
that isnt something they did on accident

Great arguments, aliens existing in reality, which this show (as well as the movie it's based off) has claimed to be set in aren't a big deal and unreliable narrators that allow you to pick and choose what is real and what isn't aren't lazy and terrible writing.

How can people say that UFO's showing up is out of place, when there is real life sightings of UFO's and well documented cases on this? I agree that as it stands the Aliens fuck up the lore of the movie/show since they're never referenced again.

There are two options to fix the show. Either in the next episode everybody who witnessed the aliens gets a memory wipe.

Or they could release a remastered version of season 1 alongside the season 2 blu ray with some more UFO's edited into the background of key scenes and maybe film some extra scenes with Molly and old Lou where he makes references to the Sioux Falls aliens.

Even the Coens would admit this show completely eclipses their entire career in terms of both art and entertainment. And since they seem like pretty smart guys they'd be fucking proud to have layed the foundation for the watershed moment where TV could finally be taken seriously. The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Twin Peaks, Breaking Bad, it's all just a precursor to this moment. The finale is going to shatter TV forever. The landscape can never go back to the way it was after this glimpse of something more.

Not necessarily. I was willing to give season 2 a chance despite not liking season 1. I went in with enough of an open mind that I would have praised it if it had been better.
>but you're bound to talk shit
And there's literally nothing wrong with that if the situation calls for it. It would be extremely dangerous if there was no one out there to call the bad shows bad and every show was just endlessly praised by their ignorant fanbases regardless of quality.

Would you want a world where nobody called the walking dead or Breaking Bad out for being garbage? If there are no standards then television will only get worse.

>>
>>63620396

>>
>>63620351
That's not enough. I could just as easily say that Fargo season 2 has the same appreciation of those values that the movie does when you've got nothing to back that shit up. Even if this is a valid point, it's not enough of an explanation to justify your "so much more going on" claim.

I think the point is invalid for the record. All degenerates and those who stray from traditional values are punished for it. The entire Peggy plotline is an indictment of feminism. Those who sway from the good life are all met with karmic retribution.
>>
This show is meant to take place in the same universe as all of the Coen Brother films. So according to Noah Hawley logic, The Man Who Wasn't There confirms the possibility that aliens are real. There is also a Mike Zoss pharmacy in No Country for Old Men and Fargo season 1.

The show uses the zany accents and traditional values to poke fun at its characters, and while there was an element of that in the movie it ultimately was a positive portrayal of their way of life. "Degenerates" being punished is not indicative of the show saying anything about small town values, and if anything backs up the my argument that the show hates it's characters uniformly.

So the exact themes of the movie, and every Coen's movie?
>>
>>63620749
Yes, but they are caricatures themselves as well. The love of midwestern values was most evident in Marge in the movie, but she wasn't portrayed as some perfect cop who was the lone beacon of goodness in a cruel world. Her small town sensibilities were a hindrance at times and a strength at times. There is none of that nuance in the Solversons. They are good simply because the show needs them to be, and the writers obviously aren't concerned with complex character motivations or internal logic.

I'm not going to argue against that. This show isn't anywhere near as smartly written as the movie. It should in no way be viewed as a legitimate expansion of the work of the Coen's. It feels like off-brand Coens, with much of the "quirkness" coming across as unnatural affectation. It is a fascimile.

I find the show entertaining but it is deserving of no artistic respect outside of some of the performances and technical execution. To me it is unconvincing fan fiction elevated to the level of "good" by the direction and actors. As a surface level entertainment show it's been among the ones I've enjoyed watching most this year, but at the same time I think it's artistically bankrupt and the people holding it up to the level of the Coen brothers are insulting the quality of the original movie.

In the scene with Lou and Malvo in season 1, Malvo alludes that he was there at Sioux Falls. He also implies that he's been at his job of, well, being Malvo, for a ridiculous amount of time.

If I had to guess at the most recent one, it's this: police helicopter flies overhead after hearing about the shooting, shines light on Bear and Lou, Bear looks up at the light/noise, Lou shoots Bear. Ed is distracted by the low flying chopper, Peggy runs out and calls it a flying saucer because she's batshit and in a high stress situation.
Erstwhile, Rye, while high on coke, suffering from blood loss, and freaking the fuck out, sees the shiny baloon reflecting the light from the waffle house/peggy's car and interprets it as exactly what you see in that scene - a flying source of light.
There is no way there are aliens. It's completely possible that Peggy sees aliums, that I'm more than happy to accept. But Fargo simply isn't sci-fi or supernatural, not in fact and not in effect.
If I'm wrong about the UFO being misdirection, I will never tripfag again.

Sadly Noah Hawley said that it is UFO... literally
I wish he would have said its up to interpretation but oh well.
Still a phenomenal season

screencapping your post so if you don't get rid of your trip everyone will know you for the filthy liar you are

You could just watch the show and not look that stuff up.

No he didn't. He said he wanted it to be unambiguous that a UFO is what you see on camera. He said he wanted audiences to see a UFO. He wanted there to be no doubt that the flying thing over the motel looks like a ufo, sounds like a ufo and does ufo things like flying around without disturbing the wind.
But this is a fictional tv series and the plain facts are that you can't rely on any of the perspectives you get in that scene. Lou's been choked out, Bear has four bullets in him, Peggy's a crazy woman... there's simply too much ambiguity.
And again, Fargo the movie, Fargo season one, and Fargo season two to date have made no forays into sci-fi/supernatural territory. Fuck, you even had the protagonist from season one cramming it down your throats the whole episode that people are unclear about the events that unfolded.
It literally couldn't be any more obvious that the ufo is misdirection.

>completely ignores direct quotes from the creators because it doesn't fit his headcanon

why are tripfags always so stupid?
>>
>>63623596
I'm not ignoring them. My reading of the show is completely compatible with Hawley's comments. Perhaps even more so than the interpretation that there are literally aliens in the Fargo universe.

>admitting to confirmation bias
no matter what we show you you'll keep believing your own headcanon so there's no point, consider yourself filtered friend :)

theres always some sort of supernatural element to Fargo and its very ambiguous. Season 1 it was biblical, this season its more sci-fi.
