The premise of Darkplace is unique in all comedy TV, but I find they repeat themselves a bit. Every episode has a very similar rhythm and structure to it. Toast is less original but I find I enjoy it more. Berry is a more fun and charismatic lead than Matthew Holness, and moreover I just really enjoy Arthur Mathews's writing - Father Ted is my favourite show ever.

Well I can't argue with you in terms of Father Ted's GOATness. I guess the formulaic nature of Toast doesn't interest me as much, even though you are right that they bring in more, none of it is very original if you are familiar with british surreal sitcoms.
I guess the formal novelty of Darkplace never wears off for me, I think they experiment enough in it within each episode. Toast of London is probably the better series to marathon I guess though.

If the rumor is true, this agreement was signed before Series One. Dalek merchandise wasn't exactly at its top popularity before Doctor Who brought them back in 2005.

Which never worked. Terry Nation tried to give the Daleks their own series throughout the Sixties, and always failed. And as far as I'm aware, they didn't make any substantial appearances anywhere for the fifteen years Doctor Who was off the air.

I'd say 1 or 4 is the best. Every episode I enjoy rewatching.
Series 2 and 3 have mostly boring one-shot episodes.
Series 5 and 6 have the worst overarching story but pretty solid one-shots.
Series 7 is hard to qualify. The Clara half is much better than the Amy half. It might be the best if you count day/time of the doctor but that might be unfair.
Series 8 does away with 2-parters outside the finale. I always insisted most 2-parters felt like they could have been wrapped up in one episode. I got my wish but almost every episode in series 8 is nihilistic and downright unpleasant. Too much horror & death.
Series 9 has great ideas. A two-part opener and finale seems to be ideal. Moffat's best qualities shine, and his worst is slightly less noticable.

I don't agree. Moffat's poor planning ability is what shined through this time. It was a trainwreck.
