Why didn't they just CGI muscles on Wonder Woman?

whats the purpose of cgi-ing that ?

I was as confused but quick look at the archive suggests its from ant man. They made this guy look way younger than he actually does using cgi.

>How the FUCK did they do this?
In the olden days, they would combine CG with real life to create a seamless blend. The ilk of which can be seen in Jurassic Park, District 9, etc. Nowadays everything is CG with no tangible objects involved so when you see practically used CG it's uncanny.
>>
>>63502959
>>
It is quite convincing (I didnt know what were you talking about since I havent seen Ant Man). But well, you can notice that the CGI is still too smooth.

Michael Douglas is old. Basically, they rejuvenated him through CGI. I think.

To this day, I still don't know what the fuck they did, it's too good. By far the most amazing sequence in the movie.

Also, Stark's father is now forever roger sterling for me.

>>
>>63503085
I know, that's why I asked why they didn't cast someone who looked like Roger Sterling
>>
It's not CGI so much as it's highly customised textures tracked to the movement of his face. I don't think they even actually use a CGI model, it's more like photoshopping video.

When they watched the original footage to see what they had to work with, they all screamed in anguish at 32 seconds when he turns his head from straight-on to profile because of how difficult it was gonna be
>>
>>63503152
>It's not CGI so much as it's highly customised textures tracked to the movement of his face. I don't think they even actually use a CGI model, it's more like photoshopping video.

Why didn't they do that for Tron Legacy?
>>
>>63503127

Oh, sorry them.

Yeah, I had to come up with some crazy explanations in my own head to comfort me. If you look hard enough, you can picture him becoming god by his 70's.

Roger Sterling looks more faithful to his comic counterpart than this guy, desu.

Because, as we've known since the releases of Jurassic Park and Toy Story, CGI is the future and can do anything! They keep trying to convince themselves they can flawlessly render CGI skin without a second thought towards how bad it'll look in just five years time.
>>
>>63503062
This still annoys me. I had no idea who John Slattery's character was supposed to be, I heard "Howard Stark" mentioned and was like wtf where?

I hadn't watched Iron Man since I was 12 so I only remembered the younger version, and it's just confusing as fuck because it's not even a recasting, it's two actors playing the same character while looking nothing alike
>>
>>63503277
Slattery was in Iron Man 2
>>
>>63503222
Because humans have a fuck ton of muscles in the human face especially around the mouth that allow both subtle and extreme movement. It's quite difficult to replicate 1:1

>>
>>63503262
Care to elaborate on that shithead? You're contributing even less.
>>
I really want some effects studio or something to do a high-profile release of some test footage of a fully-CG human figure. Like, announce some massive breakthrough in the tech "indistinguishable from the real thing" etc.

Release the footage, watch people tear it to shreds and then hold a press conference to announce that it was just footage of an actual guy, no CG involved.

I think it could be a pretty good demonstration of the framing effect of watching something knowing in advance that it contains CG elements. People have some weird emotional bias against CGI, wouldn't mind seeing someone explore it a bit.
>>
>>63503486
An animator called David O'Reilly did something like that. Made a tumblr of photo-real renderings, waited for people to either be picking it apart or saying it was amazing stuff, and then he eventually announced they were all just photos. They were objects though, not people.
>>
>>63503486
I think that'd be pretty interesting. I mean looking back at it now it feels silly, but I had no idea young Jeff Bridges was CGI in Tron.
>>
>>63503526

Probably same shit they used on Benjamin Button--combination of makeup and CGI texturing. BB was less mature (pun) tech so they also had to use low lighting to cover up the rough edges. This is more impressive because there's no camera tricks, and they're taking off WAY more years from his face compared to Brad Pitt's.
>>
>>63503303
so mocap it like they do in videogames
>>
>>63503717
it still looked a lot better than if they tried to do it with makeup. Same for the other guy they de-aged.

It was the same studio; Lola. They also did the youngening of Xavier and Magneto in X-Men 3, and all the complicated head replacement stuff and I think thinning out the face for scrawny Steve Rogers at the beginning of Captain America.

Somewhat related, back in Batman Begins I think they wanted to do some stuff with CGI but Nolan told them to fuck off, it doesn't look good. They took a shot of Batman and replicated with CGI and basically had Nolan sit down to watch them and see if he could tell the difference. Turns out he totally could, but admitted that CGI made trying to duplicate existing footage looked so much better than something done from scratch.

What the hell is this from a workprint version or something? It looked great in the theatre but this looks pretty bad.

My crush has ugly hands but the rest of her looks remarkably young. She's 23 but barely looks 18 besides her ghoulish hands.

Me. No shame about it either.

That is literally my tell when I'm scoping out a woman in a shop or something and she's facing the other direction.

The hands tell all.

>To this day, I still don't know what the fuck they did, it's too good. By far the most amazing sequence in the movie.
makeup to help blend the cgi
full facial mocap
hdr grabs of the scene
3d scan into >rescultping in zbrush
morph maps for facial blends and displacement blends
render
composite

done, basically just cgi, but they used morph maps to help the facial rig, something that isnt exactly new butw hen doen rigth does make for some good results

I questioned it. That honestly seems like one of the worse examples. The wrinkles don't look right.

>I love how Ridley Scott just went ahead and hired a 45 year old man to play a 116 year old man and nobody questioned it.
he didnt, you can thnk Lindelof for that
Weyland was supposed to have a much bigger part n the movie, with a lot of him being young

But 10 script rewrites and after all other shots were cut out we were just left with the old man bits and way too late to recast and reshoot.

Apparently it was a combination of a lookalike of young Douglas and CGI

That was honestly the most impressive part of the movie. It looked amazing in the theaters.

If he watched it when he was 12 in june of 2010 and had his birthday in july, he would be 18 at the moment.

I think at the time it seemed off to me but I couldn't put my finger on it. I hardly knew who Jeff Bridges was and didn't know CGI was capable of that so I just didn't really question.

I dislike how its use is criticised tho, they wanted to create a young Jeff Bridges for the purpose of the movie and they were successful. Even if it doesn't look 1:1 with real life it's really not far off it, and I think it's a pretty significant milestone.

I watched Iron Man 1 when I was 12, I didn't realise Howard Stark was in Iron Man 2 because I'm just going off what I remember reading on Wikipedia lmao
