The funny thing is, his breakdown of Qui-Gon and his role in the story in relation to Obi-Wan is exactly what happened during the development of the movie.
Initially it was just going to be Obi-Wan Kenobi and the prequels were going to be his story. Then he was split into a younger Obi-Wan and a new older master, who mostly hung out on Coruscant just being wise and advising Obi-Wan on shit before dying in the battle against Maul. Then eventually their roles were reversed and Qui-Gon became more of a lead character while Obi-Wan stayed on the ship and complained a lot.

It's how the prequels were concieved. When Empire came out with that Episode V tag in 1980 the plan was that Episodes I-III would tell the story of young Obi-Wan Kenobi's adventures, with Anakin/Vader being a character in those adventures. When Lucas talked about the prequels in interviews he described them as being Obi-Wan's movies. It was only when he sat down to write them that he decided to make them a character study about Anakin.
If you want an interesting read check out The Secret History of Star Wars. It explains and analyzes the creation of the entire franchise, debunking the whole "I wrote this huge movie in the 70s but started in the middle" story Lucas puts out there. What really bugged me is that Lucas never bothered to establish a pre-existing antipathy for the Sand People. Anakin just finds out they killed his mother, kills all of them and then talks about how much he hates them. If he had been shown to hate them when he was on Tatooine (which would have happened if he had been a fucking adult moisture farmer like he should have been instead of a child slave) him killing all of the Sand People would have been the culmination of something, that he had finally lost control and acted on the hatred he had always felt, thus revealing that he has begun the very rapid slide down the slippery slope that will lead to him becoming evil.

This really bugs me. If you watch the series from I-VI you get to Episode II, where a big deal is made of who Jango Fett is, who Boba Fett is and how significant Boba Fett will be in the coming films. Then you see him in the background in Episode IV alongside Jabba the Hutt (which would fucking ruin his reveal in Jedi if it hadn't already been ruined by his cameo in Episode I), then he has four lines in Empire, then he dies in Jedi.
So who people who watch Episode I-VI wonder about why the fuck they went through the effort of introducing Boba Fett if he was just giong to be such a non-entity in the later films?
Then theres Obi-Wan Kenobi. In the context of the original trilogy we know him for a little bit then he dies in a sword fight but keeps popping up from time to time. Not a huge presence but a significant and memorable one. But in the context of I-VI Obi-Wan is an increasingly major character in the first three films, then just dies halfway through the fourth. And after that this major character is just seen as a ghost. That seems like weird plotting to me.

Very very early on when Lucas was first kicking around the idea of doing the prequels the intention was to do them as flashbacks, meant to be viewed after the originals (kind of like how Temple of Doom was technically a prequel to Raiders, except more extreme). That approach makes way more sense for reasons like that.
Heres another goofy thing: In Episode III Padme gives birth to twins named Luke and Leia. Then in the next movie Luke and Leia show up and absolutely nothing indicates that they're related. It's only halfway through Episode VI that it's revealed to Luke and Leia that they're siblings, and by this point we've seen these two siblings, siblings whose birth WE WITNESSED, share a pretty passionate kiss.
In the context of the originals thats just the sort of thing that gets gross on a rewatch and you can kind of excuse it, but in the context of the series as a whole the movies KNOW that we know they're related when they kiss. So it just comes off as pretty creepy and gross right away and you kind of wonder why Lucas didn't just delete that scene when he did the latest round of desecrations. Or why he had Padme name the kids on camera instead of leaving them unnamed in Episode III.
