>With a production budget of $200 million and a further $150 million spent on marketing, industry analysts and executives say that Pixar and its parent company Disney must make $500 million to break even theatrically.
>However, at this point, many project that the film likely will not even cross the $400 million mark.
>That would mark Pixar's first box office loss, and the lowest-grossing Pixar film since A Bug's Life, which made $363.4 million worldwide in 1998

Pixar blown the fuck out

I loved dinosaurs as a kid. Kids still love dinosaurs. If they didn't, Jurassic World wouldn't have made half as much. They love them though cause they're big, ferocious, and cool.

I don't think of a dinosaur when I think of the thing in that poster, I think of Gumby.

Pretty much this. My nieces and nephews don't give a shit about movies or TV. they literally watch nothing but these faggot families on Youtube that unbox toys and shove cameras in each others faces everywhere they go. It's all they give a shit about. They don't even want the fucking toys they unbox. They get their fill from the videos alone.

I asked my nephew what he wanted for Christmas from me, and he asked me to get him chip bags from other countries, or gross holiday sodas so he can do challenges. Shit is fucking wonky.

I bet it would've done better had it premiered during summer. Really though there was no hype.

Dinosaurs are fucking gay dude. Jurassic World did well because it was a beloved IP that laid dormant for years, and it wasn't half bad. Same logic will apply to The Force Awakens, I wouldn't be surprised if that makes 1 billion in a few days.

Pixar usually has excellent art direction, just look at the character design in finding nemo. Why do the dinosaurs look like complete garbage?
>>
>>63499884
Pixar, maybe. But Disney is playing the long game. Taking a 100 million dollar loss or so doesn't effect them. They make that much from food at Disney Land in a day.

No, Disney throwing this under the bus was brilliant. They get it out of the way in order to clear the way for Inside Out (which they promoted way more) to win the Oscars. It also clears the theaters of pretty much any 'family' movie people might want to be going to see instead driving people into the money slaughter house that will be The Force Awakens.

>Walking with Dinosaurs movie was shit
>Good Dinosaur was shit

Fucking hell, they had a chance at a new golden age of CGI dinosuars and they fucked it up with shitty designs, voice overs and out of place music.

I mean in the Walking with Dinosaurs film, they have cheerful adventerous music playing as the main characters watch their father get eaten.

Who the FUCK was meant to edit that peice of shit? I read that the whole thing originally was going to have no dialogue or music... so they slap shit in randomly and its just so fucking awful
>>
>>63500829
Hollywood accounting. The "marketing" really meant putting up poster in Disneylands and spending $149 million on salaries.
>>
>>63500196
This must be a form of escapism. These kids are really going to have some sort of depression when they're older.
>>
>>63500892

I had my girlfriends 3 nephews over one night. I hooked up a nintendo with some multiplayer games, bought some soda and chips, and got some cheesy movies. Just some stuff I used to do on a regular sleep over.

Then the mom dropped them of. The smallest one has a fat ps3 with skylanders shit with him in the backpack. And the older ones brought Ipads.
Tell them that we could play some other stuff together on the nintendo..

Older kids go directly to the modem to get the code and from that point on watch only reaction videos on their Ipad and phone. That night they didn't really talk at all, except when they wanted to show a funny video. All 3 stuck behind their own screen.

The next morning the mom picks them up, and gives them some candy beans that taste like catfood and shit(that cost 12 euro). They film each othrr eating it..

How can you JUST your kids childhood that much?

I
>>
I still haven't watched inside out yet. I really don't want to see this upcoming one though, and I know I'm not alone on that front.
>>
>>63501346
It's a form of parental kekoldry, they just bend to the will of their children because they are too lazy and emotionally unhealthy to tell them,"no this isn't a good idea actually, you guys need to go outside."

They've failed in every other aspect of parenting, and pretty much life in general so they just cop out because they aren't mentally equipped to deal with the inevitable chimpout from their children (that they caused in the first place)

That's what I have gathered from observing similar situations and the like.

Nah, honestly I think it has to do with how the parents educate their children. I played old arcade games on emulation with my father when I was young, and I still do it now occasionally (he has an arcade cabinet and two pinball machines). When I'm with friends, I'm totally for doing stuff together, watching movies or playing vidya.
But it's hard to find people that actually want to do stuff. Last time I saw friends for a full week-end, they just used their smartphones/laptop and browsed youtube, facebook or shit like that. The first thing they did was going to the modem and get the code.

Smartphones, tablets and generally Web 2.0 killed human relationships. People have access to hours of moronic and easy entertainment. But as long as you keep your daughter away from this shit (or restrict its usage), she may turn fine.

When I was a kid, I would sometimes look at toy catalogs from places like Target and Toys R Us, maybe it's kind of the same thing, only with videos? They get excited for the ideas of the toys, even if they don't end up buying them.

I don't know.

Watching a movie doesn't involve any level of participation either. I'm not sure why everyone seems so scandalized, this is not really so far removed from stuff like lets plays et cetera. I'm 25, I didn't grow up with this sort of entertainment, but I still often pferer to spend time watching somebody talk over a videogame than watch an actual movie or tv show - or even play that game myself.

The thing is, a lot of these toy videos feel almost like clinical demonstrations. Most Let's Plays at least try to be funny, or have some sort of commentary.

There is something just odd about videos of some chick's hand opening up plastic eggs, and that's pretty much all it is. No joke, nothing silly. They say how what's inside is cool, and move on.

And it gets millions of views.

The main message of the movie is differentiating the kind of fear and danger you can overcome (embodied in the cartoony other animals/dinosaurs), and the kind you've just got to accept (embodied by the hyper-realistic landscapes and weather). Arlo gets continually BTFO by storms and shit even when he learns to take it, while he physically overcomes the challenges presented to him by the other animals. The story is a human one, and all the characters are representative of humans - this and the cartoony designs emphasise the transience of humans/dinos/whatever in comparison to the omnipotence of nature. I mean the character designs are still a little 'off' but this at least explains the discrepancies with the landscapes.
>>
>>63504848
At the end of the day it still looks weird as fuck, and that message isn't at all obvious from a first glance, so what you get is a bunch of people seeing a really stupid looking dinosaur.

The thing with the internet is that it's an infinite amount of instant gratification right? And people who use the internet a lot end up really jaded and apathetic because of the pure volume of shit they see every day.

So this gratification overload that starts as soon as their eyes open and their parents give them an ipad. It's going to be very interesting watching these kids grow up I think

Please, that movie was so bad when you take off nostalgiavision.

I used to love that movie as a kid, even had the McDonalds handpuppets, and one of my favorite toys was the bad dinosaur. Then this year I rewatched the movie while I was on a plane, and I found myself questioning why I was entertained by it as a kid in the first place.

I later spoke to my mother about this, and even she agreed she thought the movie was crap and hated when I used to want to watch it. Though it wasn't anywhere near one of the movies I watched the most as a kid. That title goes to the Batman vs. Superman cartoon.
