Anyone watch the new South Park tonight? Just finished it and it was an awesome episode. One of the best seasons I've seen in a long time and they finished off perfectly.
Spot on about the PC stuff and the way they tied it into being just ads and PC at the end was a great transition. Uniting against the common enemy but having to fight it in a PC way, "going to be really hard." Have to play their own game to fight it.

Hands down the best ep of the season.
Haven't laughed that hard in ages. I imagine this episode turned the tables on a lot of PC Principle haters. It's like what people night have felt if Jar Jar Binks ended up being a sith.

The last two episodes had no jokes. They just weren't funny, which is a shame because episode 8 had me pissing my pants with laughter, though that may just be because I live in a frat house.

I was disappointed by the lacklustre ending. PC Principal didn't get his comeuppance and his arc is still at its peak. Nathan was amazing. Best line in the ep was from him about how political correctness is just a semantic form of gentrification. I loved the Stan vs. Kyle dynamic. Not sure wtf was up with the guns thing. The send-ups of PC and gentrification were top notch. The ads bits were good in of themselves but seemed out of place, they should have saved it and done another full season arc just on attack of the ads. The effect of guns was hilarious. Classi was great.

The parallels they drew between ads and gentrification and PC culture were uncharacteristically insightful, and the execution was better than it's been in years. I think it's stupid to say that the episode wasn't a good conclusion. The whole point being made was within the dialogue about how PC is a language gentrification, it connects the spread of PC along with the changes that were made in the town. This sheds more light on the commentary they are making on PC culture, when you consider how the gentrification of south park effected its people. I think the point they were making in this episode is this: PC isn't inherently bad, but its goals can be be extremely counterproductive. I thought this was a nice conclusion, since the whole season they were basically just shitting on PC (which I welcomed, but the ending morale was necessary). I'm kind of still trying to figure out exactly how the whole foods / ads thing all ties into this, but it makes some sense in my head when considering the gentrification metaphor. Kind of a weak way to end the episode, but I still enjoyed it. And obviously all of the gun commentary added in there on top of everything felt pretty fresh. I lost my shit when they revealed the Purina sponsored gun show.

I was disappointed. They unsuccessfully tried to mix two different storylines that would have worked much better on their own, possibly as themes for different seasons; political correctness and the SJW mainstream on the one hand and on the other the omnipresence of ads. The idea to have SJWarriors be the spawn of the ads (SJW as a means to sell alternative lifestyle-related products) was a cool inspiration, but after a while they decided to not pursue that path. Another good idea had been posted here (in /tv/), that the whole season would be a huge ad for the next South Park vidya. That would deflate any sort of message the season would have had, but it would have been hilarious. So what was the purpose of having the PC/SJW theme? This is pure speculation, but I think that they might have changed the ending based on the recent shooting. They were building up towards something crazy violent happening at the gun show, either everyone shooting each other or some other outside force trying to kill them, and then they had the Whole Foods flying away instead.

I understand why PC principal is kept around, he became a solid character that they wanna use going forward.
However, his message of "we need to be PC" to fight ads, doesn't really mesh with the recent build up of episodes or the theme of South Park, which has always shit on the idea of being PC.
I'm glad he's staying on, but it felt very unsatisfying that the last note we get from this season is that we all need to be PC.

This is coming from somebody who hasn't watched South Park since 2005 (and who rarely browses /tv/): I was told early into this season that they'd touched upon something truly relevant in PC Principal, and since returning to the show this season I've considered him the saving grace of the entire series. I thought this show was done a long time ago, but so many of the PC jokes just go over so well when your Facebook newsfeed is full of SJWs and PC police like mine is.
I mean, the PC frat party episode where PC principal comes up stares and says "Rise 'n shine guys, if you scored last night I'm going to need to see your consent forms" was one of the genuinely funny things I've seen from the show in years. For once it's a topic WORTH poking fun at, nothing feels forced or just plain unnecessary like a lot of South Park's schtick.
