I want to try Star Trek, but I'm not committing myself to 600 hours of watching. Is there any list of episodes that are must sees; important to the larger plot or especially really good?

Pick either TOS or TNG and start at the beginning and watch until the end. Episode lists are for autists. There will be bad episodes, but that's part of the fun and then you can bitch about them here with us.

It's all the buttons. The show is too much like a submarine in space, the intercoms especially.

I actually like the buttons and switches in TOS more than the static touch screens from TNG. It seems much more interactive and makes it seem like they're actually doing something, more so than randomly tapping a glass pane. Mechanical controls are also much more realistic and reliable.
Anyone else got bingo boards? I've seen some for TNG but never any other series

One of the best TNG episodes, yet rarely mentioned. The whole 'is it all a delusion?!?' thing is cliche but they pulled it off amazingly well, wherein the end wrapped things up tightly yet you were left wondering due to how strangely fast the plot resolved itself.
