Shout Factory bought the show outright to do the new version of the show. Rumor has it, that they asked Mike back but could not guarantee that he could still do Rifftrax on the side while writing for NuMST3K.
And that as a bribe, to keep Mike from badmouthing the revival, they cut a deal with him to let him sell any OG MST3K episode that he hosted as digital downloads on the Rifftrax site, with ALL the money they make from the sales, going straight to him, Kevin, and Bill (who likewise agreed not to badmouth the show).
No clue if Trace or Frank or Mary Joe have a similar deal in place with the Rifftrax deal, but given their comments on Twitter, Shout's bribe only applies to Mike/Kevin/Bill and they still get jack shit.
Also, it's rumored that Mike may have pulled Joel aside and told him to keep the SJW mutt that is Felicia Day quiet so she doesn't shit the bed and alienate the target audience for the revival. And that Joel is taking heed to Mike's warning that Felicia is a loose cannon and must be forced to "keep sweet" and submissive to the male audience's desire for no SJW ranting harpy telling them they are dogshit.

Honestly I still haven't seen full length riffing done as well as MST3K. The few Rifftrax I've done have been good at times, but not as consistently good. RLM doing best of the worst is fun but it's not full length. For what it is MST3K is still the champ. And damn it, the puppets and sequences outside the movie added to it. That was my most important takeaway from Rifftrax.
