Memes aside, what do you think of Firefly?

Do you know why it was cancelled? Because it was going to be buffy in space with lesbian shit all over again.

No thanks. Cool idea but written by a massive kek.

And it shows. Rewatch it with all the /pol/ knowledge you have now. It's garbage.

Damn solid show that deserved a long run. It's nothing ground breaking or game changing, but it's a solid show that is good at what it does, and what it does is pretty darn cool.
>>
comfy spess show, liked the wild west feel of it.

it had these weird moments though, like the weird relationship Nathan Fillon had with the space whore. the fuck is up with that?

It's kuck culture precursor.

Also slut pride.
>>
>>63379061
It was a really cool show. Not as innovative as Farscape, but still good. It's well remembered because it's the one show Whedon didn't have a chance to fuck up, unlike Buffy or Angel. If it would have continued it would have de-evolved into an typical Whedon SJW-ish angst fest that all of his shows turn into.
>>
>>63379061
I loved it the 'community' pop culture worship kinda killed it but it is really good.

Captures life on a ship quite nicely and has that rustic working atmosphere everyone loves in SciFi with the novel western twist.

Would it have been great after a few series?? I highly doubt it but we were robbed of maybe 2 great seasons.
>>
>>63379279
It was meant to mirror the spaghetti western where the lone gunslinger has a relationship with the downtrodden, yet tough town whore.
>>
>>63379461
It was a bit more innovative than Farscape, and I loved Farscape (shitty 3rd season aside.)
Farscape was just a new take on Buck Rodgers.

I hated this show. I thought it was utterly predictable, which was the one thing everyone raved about; that it is unique and original and unpredictable. I thought everything was cliched and overplayed.

I came into it wanted to like it. I liked Buffy and Dollhouse is one of my favorite shows of all time.
>>
The show quickly forgot what is was about to focus on the marysueish space buffy and slutty mechanic. There is no plot. Only close up of spoopy space buffy and people leaning on ramp staring at something being deep.

It's shit. And thanks god it was killed before we got to the lesbian plot.
>>
I've honestly tried half a dozen times, but have never been able to sit through the first episode in its entirety.

Serenity > Firefly

I don't think I would like the show nearly as much if I hadn't seen the movie before I saw it.
>>
Whedon is a hack.

Did the entire show and movie take place in the same solar system?
>>

Pretty sure people just liked the fun space western atmosphere with the River sub-plot mystery aspect
>>
>>63379652
I agree. That movie was almost perfect for what it was. So much so that the deleted scene don't seem to fit with the tone and pacing of the movie.
>>
Great show, Malcolm Reynolds is a top Whedon character, and in general the rest of the crew is great too. Unfortunately the movie is not very good and doesn't hold up on repeated viewings whereas the show is fine when you return to it.

>Pretty sure people just liked the fun space western atmosphere with the River sub-plot mystery aspect
I didn't like that they made River some kind of super hero in the movie.

Kinda boring.

yeah, and Stephen King's The Gunslinger, which were both tipping their respective fedoras to the time honored tradition of having the hero get involved with the prostitute in westerns.

>>
>>63379061
The only good thing Whedon ever did (we can maybe include Serenity). By no means a masterpiece like the retarded fans tend to claim, but it was enjoyable.
In a way, I'm glad it was cancelled because of all the shit Whedon had prepared, but maybe we could have had one or two more seasons without all that bullshit.
Also Nathan Fillon was good in it.
>>
>>63379811

I think the problem is that that plotline would've been doled out over the course of a few seasons of the show, but Joss Whedon had to cram it all into a single movie.
>>
>>63379061
Outlaw star rip off
also cowboy bebop rip off
>>
>>63380636
I take it you avoided Buffy because of the title then.
>>
It was really funny and great but I'm not necessarily weeping over the cancellation. It was unfair, sure, but the show probably would have had a few good seasons and then ran out of steam and became embarrassing.

>>63381204
Human's reach isn't that big. A one in 50,000,000,000,000 chance will happen in the universe somewhere and many times, but the chance it is within a few thousand light years of our solar system?

>talking about the map of an rpg that has little to nothing to do with the show
OK, the only decent point is how many inhabitable planets there are in the universe, which is unimportant since they strictly explain that they have teramorphing procedures. Unless I'm forgetting something about a 6 star system they talk about in the series (which is pretty unimportant to the plot)

how can others even compete with this cast
>>
>>63379061
Top tier comfy. Jane is an awesome character and I really like the dynamic he has with Mal. Chocolate waifu is a delicious waifu. Slutty mechanic is also delicious. Space negro is also a wonderfully bad man in a casual psychopath manner. Too bad he was only that one episode, 'cause he'd be a better recurring antagonist than those bluehanded fags and their ear-bleeding bullshit device.
>>
>>63379061
It was as if some 15 year old had just watched Buffy and then watched Cowboy Bebop and decided to write a fanfic. The setting has potential but the writing was just bad.

I enjoyed both Firefly and Farscape, but it's hard to believe that Firefly is more innovative. It's funny because they're both the scrappy space crew up against the big space federation cliche, but Farscape did a lot more with it than firefly in my opinion.
Also, why did you think season 3 was shitty? It wasn't as good as 2 or 4, but it was better than 1 and overall not bad.

Sorry for the late reply, if you're still there:

Whenever I think of the 3rd season of Farscape, I think of the terrible episode where they're back on 1980s Earth, and accidentally make it so John doesnt live to adulthood, but instead of disappearing entirely, adult John becomes a disembodied voice.

What in the actual fuck?
>>
>>63379061
It was good for a sci-fi show, I usually can't get into them at all

But face it, if it wasn't cancelled, few people would care. There wouldn't be cult following.

Also TV shows can't wait for word-of-mouth to make them viable, they have to attract an audience from the outset, especially for firefly because it was expensive as fuck. Maybe if it was made 5 years later, potential audiences would give it more credit. But the fact is no one gave a shit about a western in space until you see a few episodes. It died before it was put in the death slot.

Also it's funny that once whedon was a big enough name to do whatever he wanted, even revive the show, he understandably said fuck that and directed cape shit. He follows the money just like fox.
>>
>>63379061
It was awesome.
Movie is pretty shitty though. I would be happier if the movie didnt existed.

Just watched it for the first time and liked it a lot. Comfy, some decent ideas and execution, endearing actors/characters. Very good.
>>
>>63384955

Having said that, what else is essential or similar Whedon-core? Buffy, I assume?
