Was "The Descent" the last great horror film?

It was good. Original, atmospheric, plenty of suspense, blood and guts. Wouldn't go to far as to say it was the last, but stands out in an era where horror had become cliche
it will definitely stand the test of time, whether or not it will be considered a classic remains to be seen

The Descent is damn good though. One of the best monster movies in a long time. Probably since Dog Soldiers.

The only thing this movie is missing to make it perfect is rape. Think about it. Its already an all female cast thrown into a horrifying situation. No escape, getting eaten alive. What else could top that? Some fucking crawlers picking the most attractive of them all in a scene dragging her away and raping her while she watches her friend getting eaten.

It's just such a lazy trick. I felt bad that the character hadn't actually escaped, but I was much more irritated about being duped like that. It's as though the film has disrespected the audience for having the audacity to have some faith.
Well, I don't believe in a no win scenario, so as far as I'm concerned, she got in that car, told the whole damn world, and after a brief discussion in Parliament the SAS went to work on those pale bastards (the mutants, not the Scotch) and they were never heard from or seen again.
