So I gave into the hype and decided to finally give the Star Wars series a go. I've decided to go through the movies in the chronological order since that's how George Lucas (The creator of the series, if you don't know it) reccomends that order. I've just finished watching The Phantom Menace (Episode 1), and OH MY GOD what an amazing movie.
Now I know why people kept tellng that the first two movies were the best.
It's just so bold stylistic. I can't believe this is a movie from the end of the nineties. It looks like it could've been made today. The lightsabers are awesome, and that final fight with Darth Maul is incredible and emotional (I nearly cried when Oby Wan's master, Qui Gon, got killed).
The characters are great, and I could really feel the struggle of Anakin and his mother. I laughed at Jar Jar (great comedic relief!) and I fught alongside the Jedi.
The movie is so bold and stylistic. Every single scene has just so much going on.
I can't wait for the second movie, which people keep telling me it's the best.

Other than Jar Jar it is far from the worst Star Wars movie. It's only a little worse than Return of the Jedi and out of the prequels it feels the most like a real star wars movie. Episode 2 is by FAR the worst. Actually no, 3 is close to being just as bad.

2 and 3 both are awful thanks to the overuse of bad CGI, and utterly boring dialog, but 3 is the better of the two simply because it had the sense to end the movie with a reshot of the binary sunset scene.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I think I've only ever seen it once in full. Always stayed away from it, but it took me years to fully acknowledge why.
I'll happily watch 1 or 3 any day of the week, but 2 is just somehow amazingly unwatchable for the better part.

I recently sat down and watched the phantom menace a while ago.
Its not that bad, aside from the child actors.

This. V practically ends on a cliffhanger and leads right into VI. If you watch the prequels in between you aren't going to give a fuck anymore about what happens to Han or anybody else. You'll probably be so nauseated by those shit movies that you won't even bother with episode VI
