>>
>>63323260
Pretty satisfying you'd push it in a little bit and then it would make that sound as the casette went into place, god help you if some faggot hadn't rewinded the tape and then you spend 5 minutes waiting for it to rewind.
>>
>>63323260
I'm 19 and I know what it feels like to push a VHS tape into a VCR. It feels just like what it looks like.
>>
VCRs were a pain in the ass
>>
>>63323260
Still do it all the time, have my drugs in a VHS. Feels good man.
>>
>tfw you believed that stopping the movie (when the screen turned completely blue) and then rewinding it made it rewind faster

Did it? Because it felt faster to me.
>>
You will never know what it feels to rape a VHS into a VCR
>>
>>63323260
The movies turned to shit the more you watched them. Pretty fucking shit desu lad
>>
You'd insert the tape by the back end, then gently push it until you heard a satisfying locking/clicking sound, after which the casette would be moved backward mechanically then lowered onto the headers.
>>
>>63323260
like salty coins and bags of sand.
now seriously I am 24 years old and probably one of the last persons that used VHS,it felt like pushing a brick into some kind of automatic trash can,it was nice.
>>
>>63323260
>>63323296
You used your finger to push the VHS into the VCR and felt that brief and gentle resistance before it went in. Just like the moment when your penis finds its way into the vagina of a sweet and innocent teen.

VHS had lots of good shit going on. I was absolutely furious when I saw the first unskippable adverts on DVD's, it made me so mad that I had to watch through the same fucking commercial every time I wanted to watch that disc.
WWE Unforgiven 2002 DVD had this few minutes long preview video that made the whole thing look like porn, and you couldn't skip over that. It was something about those superstar divas and their thongs or something.

I hate touchscreens. I feel like I'm already out of touch with modern technology, and I'm only 23 years old.

I hate those things. The worst one I ever saw was the DVD for The Italian Job, the original. Whoever made that thing should be shot.
>>
>>63323527
Yea but the extras were shit, if they even had any you had to fast forward all the way to the end. And tapes had advertisements you had to fast forward through too. At least most dvds you can skip to the main menu unless your buying pig shit WWE dvd's, in that case you deserve whatever they put on it.

It's kind of like the tray on Blue Ray player.
First you, push it in past the flap. And it goes in really easy but then there's this resistance and you have to give it a harder push but after that the machine kind of takes it and pulls it in from there.

>>
it really is a unique feeling. during the push theres a point where the vcr would steal the tape from your touch like feeding food to a baby. it was like it was angry with you because it wanted you to just sit down and enjoy the movie. Machines are so cold and scripted nowadays.
>>
>>63323260
>that moment when it switches from you pushing it, to it sucking it the rest of the way in
>>
I used to tape the History Channel all the fucking time back when it was actually good. I may actually have them in a storage container somewhere.

>>63323606
If you're a fucktard and don't properly stop the film and rewind it on some machines, the film spools inside the case would get missaligned. Machines like >>63323569 wouldn't do this (idiot proof) and would rewind faster. Of course a con is that if the tape is old enough it would tug on the adhesive keeping the film attached to the spools, which over time can cause it to also mess up the playback of the tape.
>>
>>63323260

well yeah, it's pure shit compared to modern level media tech. The entire point of still keeping a VHS around is for when you find random OOP sort of crap that is only out on VHS.

There's a head that pushes against the tape while it's playing. Rewinding/FF'ing with the tape on means that the tape is going through that head. Obviously, it can't go full throttle otherwise the head would rip the tape apart. When you stop, the head recedes and the tape can move as fast as the motor in the vcr will make it as it's rewinding/ff'ing.

It's bretty basic shit.

>You have a VCR that rewinds the damn thing.

>I never understood why tape rewinders were a thing

Their main purpose was to extend your VCRs life. Rewinding and Forwarding a tape tends to wear out your VCRs heads fast. If you only use the VCR for playing movies and let a different tool do the rewinding you VCR would work better and last longer.

Also some cheap VCRs would fuck up the tape while rewinding. Thats why when you rented VHS tapes some of the movies would have lines going down the picture. Someones shitty VCR fucked up the film while rewinding.

Not only do they extend your VCRs life they also protect your films from getting fucked .

VCR memories, "Cassette culture". True anon stories from an oldfag.

-One of the very first VHS videocassettes that I ever owned was E.T. It was given to me when I was a little boy of about 5 or 6. I still love that movie, it holds up now that I'm an adult (yes, it does so). The cassette still works and is watchable.

-Dad taped some kid's stuff off of the TV periodically, and I'd re-watch after school. I would watch Short Circuit incessantly. We later used tapes to record Triumph the Insult Comic Dog segments, and items of extra-special interest off of TCM etc. I actually made a point of taping Family Guy eps in the first few seasons, fearing the content might be lost to time. I was quasi-vindicated during the first cancellation.

-The sensation of pushing a tape into a side-loading VCR (my mainstays) involves some force, and soft push-pull. If you've ever pushed a CD into a car deck, it's very much like that, but you can feel the moving parts whirring. Once it's mostly in, then it will accept the cassette and pull it in. Obvious metaphor is obvious.

I've never operated a top-loading VCR, but an old HS biology class had one mothballed in the corner of the room, never used. I was quite curious about it, and happy to see one.

-Now about 16 years old, I had my own TV and VCR so I could record Victoria's Secret shows and E! Wild On, had a nice little spank bank in addition to other stuff. Some stores used to sell 2-VHS sets of long films such as Godfather II and Titanic. Stuff I have includes the un-raped Star Wars trilogy, Wallace and Gromit Shorts, Mr. Bean boxes, and a bunch of 90's animu esp. Evangelion and Ranma 1/2.

The medium I'm more curious about is laserdisc. The only time I've ever even seen a laserdisc was when a spanish teacher put an instruction video into a machine.

I'm about the same age and I was going to make a comment with a similar intent. It's surprising (but then again maybe not, most of these were made in Japan, Germany, Holland or America) how relatively complicated pieces of machinery they were compared to modern counterparts with a lot less moving parts and how robust they were even they had children operating them. Dad's old Sony VHS with the flip front still works as I assume does grandpa's betamax. Meanwhile my laptop's dvd player I've used like twice in 3 years sounds like a coffee grinder when you put a cd in and doesn't read shit.

I actually finally got rid of my old VHS player earlier this year. I'd been saving it due to a small collection of tapes that I had that never hit DVD/Bluray. Thankfully this year they finally did.

While it's absolutely nostalgic to think about, VHS really was ass. I hated having the tapes slowly degrade on me from repeated watching and from general background radiation decay. (I never forget finding a few old tapes from the 80s that were still shrink wrapped but refused to play because of this.)

Laserdisc I have nostalgia for. Especially for all the old interviews/commentary and extras that have never been ported over.

Dude I totally used to do that when I was like 8years old in the mid 90s. I used to walk all the way to my local Supermarket and I would buy VHS tapes for like $2.99 each to record Power Rangers. Glad I did to seeing that it took them FOREVER to release the show on dvd.

Regret trashing only one that had an extended USA network cable airing of Child's Play 2 and 3. That was a mistake I made when I was forced to move into a VERY small house and had no space to move around.

Vhs aged fucking well. It had a 20 year run at the top of its game. 1978-1998. Saw off betamax, video2000, laserdisc was always too niche to be mass-marketed. It took DVD to take up the reins for movie collectors (a trend which vhs started) for VHS to finally concede it's position as the #1 format. No other format, physical or digital, will have as great a lifespan as vhs did.
