What were movie theaters like in the 80s?
>>
>>63311761
they were huge outdoor screens in parking lots and you drove your car in and parked it and watched the movie in your car

I wish i was making this up
>>
>>63311761
Movies played for 8 months straight instead of 8 weeks.
>>
>>63311761
Less dirty. Less minorities, too. And, back then, no-singles policy was actually enforced by sheer initiative.
>>
>>63311761

I really wanna go in there and watch Signs by myself.
>>
Less penis inspections honestly.
>>
>>63311761
People treated it as a big deal and got dressed up, even if they were watching some schlock in the middle of the afternoon.
>>
>>63311761
Cinema vipers had not yet been introduced.
>>
There was no designated shooter
>>
>>63311793

That sounds fun tho
>>
>>63311761
The screens were smaller you had to go to a person to buy a ticket. You couldn't just go to a machine
>>
>>63311793
And then you'd swing by the malt shop before heading over to Makeout Point, right grandpa?
>>
>>63312353
>>63312386
Have you negroids really never been to one?
>>
whats with all the blatant underage in this thread?
>>
>>63312431
Tell us more about the Reagan years, old man.
>>
>>63312411

I'm not in my mid 40s, so no, they missed me by about 2 decades
>>
>>63312469
I'm 20 and I've been to one once

Granted this was on a small Pacific island, but still, I'd have some backward shithole flyover in the USA to still have some
>>
>>63311808
This. I remember Home Alone (1990) playing for at least this long and how it kept breaking records.
>>
>>63312503

>this was on a small pacific island

Well there you go. You're expected to be behind the times.
>>
Affordable.
>>
>>63312616
Yes, exactly like rural Oklahoma

Please read the rest of my post before replying next time
>>
There were more theaters around to go watch porn.
>>
>>63312469
>>63312616
Um, drive-in movies exist in every single state still.
Stop letting everyone know you're 15.
>>
>>63312653

I literally couldn't understand the rest of your post. It's just a string of words like you had a seizure or something
>>
>>63312825

>Um

Kill yourself
>>
>>63312881
Thanks for proving my point.
>>
>>63311761
less falcons, cinema showers were rare (and optional), crab legs in the menu...
>>
>>63312636
This, sadly
>>
>>63312599
Because movies took a year to even get released on VHS. I can still remember losing my shit when ET was released on home video.
>>
Ashtrays in the back of the seats
>>
>>63312797
People actually did (or still does) this? I can't think of a worst place to watch porn than a public theater. I couldn't fap at all and I'd hate to get covered by the backseat guy's cum.
>>
Well movies were a bigger deal back then, they were way more of a THING. Nowadays there are too many being made, and millennials only put them on in the background, so they have less importance.
>>
>>63316284
>inb4 a big debate about defining a millennial
>>
The theaters & screens were larger, but there were fewer of them. No stadium seating.
>>
>>63311761
Whoa. Did Signs really come out around the time XXX came out!?

Because I actually went to XXX with my friends. I remember asking for a ticket and the ticket lady joked with the other person behind the counter "I don't think you're old enough to see a movie named that!" as she handed me the ticket and chuckled. I didn't understand what she meant for YEARS.

>look it up
Fuck, that was around my 13th birthday.

Oh anyway, the point is, I went to XXX with my friends and didn't see Signs until WAY after I should have. Crazy they came out about the same time.

Double & triple features at a movie theater weren't uncommon back then and cost next to nothing.

Back then the no singles policy was unwritten but singles wouldn't have the guts to leave their apartments, much less go to a movie. Also there was no crab legs, only buckets of peanuts and green beans. And this was before there were roofs on movie theaters so if it rained the movie was impossible to hear or see, but you got a free shower out of it so who's complaining?
>>
>>63315349
I remember that too. E.T. wasn't released on home video until like the late 80s/early 90s, IIRC. It was a big event.
>>
>>63315349
>>63316500
You tell me. In my third world country I had to wait almost a whole year (sometimes even more) to watch the "most recent" Hollywood film. I watched BTTF in the theater almost 4 years after its release.
>>
>>63316447
>double features weren't uncommon and cost next to nothing
Fuck, can we bring double features back? All we get for 'em now is when you want to see the two halves of the latest YA shitfest, and those cost a ton.
>>
I'm 42.

>no cell phones
>people didn't talk as much
>no faggots
>no niggers
>projectors (film would break often, but projectionist was a real job then and they would fix it in seconds)
>>
>>63316625
but today most films are about 2 and a half hours length. Today nobody wants to stay 5 to 6 hours in the theater.
Also:
>dat pause in the middle of the film so you could go to the bathroom without missing something important.
>>
>>63311761
The showers lacked heated water.
>>
ice cream lady wheeling an ice cream trolley around during intermission
>>
>>63316715
Depends on how determined you are to sit in that theater.

The marathon runs of all the Best Picture nominees that AMC puts on each year is fucking great.
>>
Games of gin rummy in the games room
>>
>>63316354
how the fuck would you not know what xxx is at 13 nigger
>>
>>63316924
Because I was young and pure, not some disgusting degenerate like you.
>>
>>63316187
>People actually did (or still does) this?

Yes, there are still some here in Argentina. Some prostitutes work there too and you can get a blowjob. The thing that you might find curious is that they dont allow single women.
>>
>>63317499
What if a single woman wants to watch porn and get a blowjob though?
>>
>>63311793
Didn't drive-ins largely die in the 70s?
>>
>>63312825
The closest drive in to me is over 90 minutes away, and I imagine its farther for people that don't like in tiny states like me
>>
>>63318075

i remember going to them in the early 90's a few times. sound quality was always fucked and they never had refreshments ready.
