How did these things get from orbit to the ground safely?

WITH PLOT HOLES.
Pretty sure they teleport them
>>63295343
>>63295358
They couldn't land on the planet because of the defense systems that the rebels had in place. They state that in the film.
>>63295319
Bigger versions of the drop ships that drop off AT-TEs in the Prequels.
>>63295360
This tbqhf
They landed a star destroyer
>>63295399
They couldn't land near the base because of them, they landed far away and then used the AT-ATs to get to the base.
>>63295399
thats why they landed away from the defenses and made the slow march to the rebel base, it takes forever for the AT-ATs to reach the base
>>63295399
They couldn't blow the planet up because of the shield, you dingus.
>>63295319
Isn't the whole battle sort of pointless really?
They're supposed to be slowing down the imperial assault to buy time for the evacuation.
But they only ever take down AT-ATs that are behind other AT-ATs. So really they didn't buy any time. But the evacuation is successful anyway.
How do they turn? It doesn't look articulated and the legs seem to move in only 2 dimensions. Wouldn't something with that high of a center of gravity get easily blown over in high winds?
>>63295613
they stalled long enough for the ion cannon to do cripple the star destroyers. if they didnt bunker down in front of echo base they wouldve been overrun quicker and possibly lost a transport or two
Why do those things even have legs? Seems like a terrible design for what is essentially a large truck with a gun on the front that's in a universe where super fast land and spaceships are common things
>>63295521
>those things would also drop prebuilt imperial bases of operations
thats a big dropship
>>63295652
'Cos it's cool.
>>63295521
>you'll never drop out of a Titan in an At-At ready to wipe out rebel scum
why even live?
>>63295652
In fact, correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't seen the films for 25 years and I'm basing this on the toy my cousin had but aren't the only useful bits of them the head? What's in the body?
>>63295699
Joint the military and do the next best thing
>>63295726
I thought they had stormtroopers/speeder bikes/e-webs inside
Who cares about how they got to the ground safely?
How the fuck is an ATAT an actual beneficial military weapon?
They look cool sure, but seriously what the fuck do they accomplish other than having the high ground on their enemies? Any aircraft could accomplish the same thing

Soldiers
>All Terrain-Armored Transport
>>63295800
Seems I was right
>>63295813
They were basically meatshields to take all the blasts while the stormtroopers advanced.
>>63295652
I believe the reason given back then is that they were designed for moving in swampy and snowy terrain where the skiffs/speeders and tanks cant really go.
And yes, the main body interior held shock troops and speeder bikes
>>63295813
The rebel theater shield prevented the imperial aerospace craft from entering. That' why they had the walkers.

Thanks guys
>>63295813
>other than having the high ground on their enemies?
I think you're sorely underestimating how important having the high ground is in Star Wars.
>>63296005
It's like poetry
>>63295813
>they have they high ground
>>63295793
No thanks. I don't want to be the equivalent of a gun-carrying welfare recipient at camp.
>>63295893
>tfw you own the cross sections book that has all the vehicles and ships
feels good
>>63295319
they're indigenous
>>63295399
>Make ready to land our troops beyond their energy shield and deploy the fleet so that nothing gets off the system.
>>63295521
It just looks like a bigger mouse droid.
>Mouse droids have mini AT-ATs in them.
>>63295521
>AT-AT Barge
Because of Expanded Universe power, which Disney just fucked up.
>>63296118
I really want to buy all those books but they're stupid expensive.
Been looking for a torrent but nope
>>63295893
So do the troopers rappel/fastrope to the ground, from the sides of the walker??
>>63296486
Yes.
>>63295613
Taking down the AT-AT's limited the number of infantry units making the initial assault on the rebel base, this allowed the rebels to hold out until the downed walker crews were able to catch up on foot and reinforce the assault teams that got through unscathed.
