#1 Han didn't shoot "first". He was the only one that shot.
#2 for Lucas to support the "Greddo shot first" theory by saying that - otherwise - Han would be a cold-blooded murderer completely undermines him as a character.
He was always a selfish smuggler who only thought about himself. He didn't give a flying fuck about anyone until he met up with Luke and joined the alliance. It's called a CHARACTER ARC.
Even at the last moment before the battle of Yavin, he said "fuck it" and left, but because he realized he had learned to love others, and that others learned to love him, he fucking came back and saved the day.
Lucas COMPLETELY ruined that with his recent comments. He has a fundamental misunderstanding of what character evolution is.
