Fuck the Originals. So much potential, but the first 2 seasons were identical:

Originals/TVD have Supernatural power creep though. Each season there is a new, more powerful foe or class of super natural being and each season the previous record holder is tossed around to prove how strong the new guys are.
Each season the weaker protagonists + their allies win because of bullshit plot armor, just like in Supernatural.

Klaus and Elijah have always been the strongest and fastest entities in the Vampire Diaries universe, and they have also always been assravaged by even mid-level witches.
The most questionable "power level" moment I've seen in the whole series is when Stefan, Damon and Tyler were able to wrestle Klaus to the ground.
Oh, and that one time that Damon was able to fistfight Super Evil Alaric but that was just sheer POWER OF LOVE talking because he was getting bludgeoned to death until Alaric made the deadly mistake of threatening his waifu.
