What's funny is that my Dad is in his 60's and talks nonstop about this and that picker's show.
I mean at first, he started doing this rant shit when I talked to him, and he would go on and fucking on about how "oh well my busted chinese cat clock from 1978 must be worth a damn fortune if they sell shit like on TV" and stuff like that
Now he has 8 broken cars in his driveway, and like $1,000 worth of old antiques that nobody fucking wants, and that's nothing to say of the shit my mom hoards. It really makes me sad whenever I visit home because all he and my mom want to do is shop and hoard shit they never sell or use. I used to work in a hobby store and we'd buy and sell. We mostly took video games dvds and the like but we'd also take board games in occasionally.
About the same time Pawn Stars and it's million inspired competitors started gaining popularity people would come into he store with garbage condition product all time. Now what was always great was they tried the "haggling" part almost always. "I have for you an ORIGINAL Nintendo console. Now how RARE is that?" Truth is we had about 40 in out store alone and we lost money on everyone because of course no one had the cords and those vendors who did overcharged. Then they'd throw out a number "I want 100 dollars." We sold them for $35 and what was even funnier than the song and dance was the unwavering stance on how much they wanted.
So me thinking that everyone will understand how retail actually works try to explain it and they get angry. "I WON'T TAKE ANY LESS THAN 100 YOU'RE TRTYING TO RIP ME OFF THIS IS A NINTENDO! WHAT ABOUT MY GAME?" The game was always more than likely duckhunt/mario which we sold for an astounding $0.95. They'd storm off ranting and raving about how we're thieves and being as loud and obnoxious as the people on these shows do. 3/4 of the time they'd be back though with like 12 DVS in addition and attempt to re-haggle but often just took the money.
Still better than working at Subway though
