I don't know. I think there was a thread on imdb years ago. Something about how Corso is alwasy surrounded by fire, smoking, ash, etc. A bunch of subtle remarks like the Widow villain saying she, "Saw the devil once as surely as I see you now." When Balkan tries to summon the devil at the end, it's Corso who walks through the door. The girl is represented in the final picture as the whore of Babylon riding the beast, just as she "rode" Corso outside the castle.
Mostly fan musings, without a whole lot of solid evidence.
