Deadpool used to be great. He's always been goofy, but it was well executed. He was multi faceted. He knew exactly how crazy he was and despised himself for it. He was dangerous. He was dangerous - he may have been a jackass but there were times where he was completely focused, and his skills put him in the top 1% of operators in the marvel universe. This is a guy who, while dying (if I recall correctly) was able to take down the hulk.
The late 90s and early 2000s produced some truly fantastic stories with him.
And then fucking Daniel Way got ahold of him and threw all that out the window and turned him into 9gag: the character.
This is one of the many reasons I've barely picked up a marvel comic since like 2007.
Go read some deadpool stories by mark waid or fabian nicieza.

I met rob liefield at Cleveland comic con , he was quiet a character. Really he was genuinely proud of deadpool and cable, not only during his era but what they became today. He said the movie is fantastic and I will love it when I see it. Said he wasn't surprised deadpool was popular because he was inspired to create him.by MTV music videos and he thinks pop culture is pretty much the same since then.

All comics go bad at some point. Spiderman was great for a long time until the clone saga, then it was garbage. He's never recovered and never will. Once you go schlock its over and you get freeze framed in the Marvel universe.
