This is the greatest comedic film of all time.
>>
>>63227340
It was in '20s and maybe until the '40s. Do you know in what year we are?
>>
>>63227574
1915?
>>
>>63227340
Dr. Strangelove and In The Loop are the GOAT comedy films.
>>
>>63227340
The Circus is underrated. The Great Dictator, Chaplin's scenes aside, is overrated.
>>
>>63227340
I feel like I like each new Chaplin film I see less.
Modern Times>The Kid>A Dog's Life>City Lights>The Circus. Switch City Lights and The Circus and its also the order I saw them

If it's a comedy, why it gave me so many feels?

OP here, wrong pic, sorry.
>>
>>63228253
>>63227340
Both amazingly good
>>
>Shitplin
>Better than Fatty Arbuckle or Buster Keaton

City Lights and The Great Dictator are massively overrated.
>>
>>63227340
the kid is the best
>2015
>not watching chaplin flicks at 2X speed on youtubve at 360p

Same here, at least for his comedies. Probably because his jokes are mostly the same thing, so it gets boring. In fact, Chaplin isn't really funny.
Sure, most of his movies have a good message and aren't just about the jokes, but the fact that you see the same shitty situations, the same shitty little tramp doing the same retarded things over and over is boring and tarnish the movies.

Best silent film, coming through.
>>
>>63228473
That's not Abel Gance's Napoleon.
>>
>>63228651
is it really good or is it a meme?
>>
>>63228895
It's a bit long (4 hours) but it's good. I'm wiaiting for the restoration project that will be finalized next year.

If you can read french (or just run it in a translator)
>>
>>63228286
Your opinion is massively trash.
>>
>>63229071
Charlie Chaplin is the redditor's choice for silent movies, especially the Great Dictator/City Lights.
>>
>>63228286
The Marx Brothers trump them all.
>>
>>63228361
I think its also all the interchangeable, plot-irrelevant skits he does, like the boxing scene in City Lights, that make them feel same-ish. That scene could be cut and put into almost any of his other films. During those bits it just becomes "another" Chaplin film
>>
>>63229113
>your opinion is contingent on how redditor's view him than the man's iconic and influential role in cinema
Nice priorities, newfriend. You don't have to try so hard to fit in though.
>>
>>63227602
It's kinda crazy how not funny Strangelove is
>>
>>63229160
marx brothers' best?
>>
>>63229313
Debatable. Personally I'd say Animal Crackers or A day at the Races.
>>
>>63229283
Chaplin is mediocre in comparison to Fatty Arbuckle/Keaton, and The Great Dictator is definitely overrated (same applies with City Lights).

>newfriend
I've been posting on /tv/ for years friendo, unlike the typical /v/eddit or /sp/edditor crossboard posting scum.

>>63229313
Animal Crackers or A Night at the Opera.
>>
>>63227574
No expiration date on funny, son.

Such fucking reddit hipster shit
>>
>>63229367
>>63229478
thanks, will check em out
>>
>>63228651
I've seen the 5 1/2 hour Napoleon at a screening with a full orchestra at the Paramount in Oakland and sure, it's magnificent, but the best silent? Nah. The mot ambitious? Sure.
>>
>>63229749
Which would you say is the best silent film?
>>
>>63229858
I wouldn't make a grand statement about any film being the greatest.

But:
The Last Laugh
Menilmontant
Die Nibelungen
Foolish Wives
The Crowd
Sherlock Jr.

The Gold Rush and Modern Times are better.
The Kid is overrated, he improved on it in every way with City Lights.
>>
>>63230289
For pure laughs, the Circus may be the best one
>>
>>63227783
Yeah, The Great Dictator is defiantly a child of its time, almost humorless considering the circumstances. Though it can be appreciated in what it attempted to do in historical context and for its timeless speech that resonates in any era, the overall film is almost dull in comparison to his greater work.
>>
>>63228473
Up there, but I'd pick pic related.

Come on, comrade.

Who are you? Have you seen those films?

Seems to me that you are just another plebeian trying to cause a fuss around the patrician domains for a bread crumb of attention.
>>
>>63228651
Back to reddit Zieg..
>>
>>63230701
I have seen all of Chaplin's films, all of Keaton's films, and a fair share of Arbuckle films.

Using Keaton to knock Chaplin is typical poseur shit.
>>
>>63232532
Why are both Chaps and Keats so lovable anon?
