I mean yeah he hasn't been much of a hollywood star since the star wars days, but he's had a long career as a voice actor for a bunch of shit. He gets a steady income, gets to do things he enjoys and the stress is probably a lot lower.

Shit like this actually legitimately gets me mad. There's no reason to believe Hamill would've hindered the film at all. Did they think he would because they didn't want the Star Wars audience to see it, or because they just didn't like his performance as Luke?

Are you not aware of the car crash he was in during the 70s? His face got fucked, his nose and cheekbones were shattered and he required extensive surgeries. They covered it up pretty good in Empire but his face was already noticeably different. He looked like a goddamn freak in the Holiday special.
