It's not really great, but it somehow maintains a certain middle level of quality. The acting is certainly one of the qualities of the show, but the script is dragging some things for way too long when you already can guess what's gonna happen eventually.

Honestly...it's pretty good.
Each season gets progressively better. The main problem, imo, is that they rely on soap opera style drama sometimes and it can be really dumb. Fortunately that aspect is reduced more and more each season. The performances are fucking great, especially from Highmore and Farmiga.
The "worst" part is that since it's an origin story for Norman Bates you have to wait and put your time in to get real satisfaction for the show. They've already confirmed season 5 will be the final season, and the ending to season 3 left all the characters in very interesting circumstances. Norman is pretty much blown Psycho now, so these final 2 seasons should be pretty damn satisfying.
