What was the biggest plot twist in film history?
>>
Not that one. The fact that they showed that Vader was white in the scene when he's talking to the Emperor made a lot of people aware that he might be Luke's dad before the ending.
>>
>>63184210
how was he white?
>>
>>63184210
No it didn't you mong. Without being spoiled outside of the movie, that scene reveals nothing about Vader being Luke's dad.

nigga I saw that shit coming from a mile away.
>>
>>63184255
It does. Ben and Yoda are acting suspicious about Luke's potential to darkness because of his parentage, and they used a well-known black actor as the voice of Vader, so turning him white was a big deal and a clue.

If you were born after TESB, there's no way you can understand how big a twist "Luke I am your father" was at the time. Even making the Vader means father connection, which I was able to as a child, it still was a surprise. It was surprising to most of the cast. Twists were not a big thing in movies back then, the audience was less genre savvy back then, there was no internet, which also meant there was no big community of people who either just had big mouths or actively wanted to spread spoilers, and even if there were they had nothing like the plethora of platforms that are available today to widely disseminate such things. It's possible for someone to know this twist now without ever having watched the movies, by cultural osmosis. That is the truest demonstration of how big a surprise it was, that it became such a memetic pop reference. I won't say that it's the biggest twist in movie history, and I agree that in hindsight 20+ years later, it seems like an obvious one, but to those who say it was easy to see at the time, you just can't understand what it was like to hear it the first time around. It was mind blowing at the time, and very few people saw it coming.

Get rekt faggot.

When Star Wars was made Anakin and Vader were different characters, and the original Empire script had Anakin's ghost in it.

This actually had a really decent twist, came completely out of left-field but wasn't something that just screamed that it was a twist for the sake of a twist.

This meme needs to fucking die. Vader was named as he was because he inVaded the rebel ship when we first see him. It wasn't initially planned for him to become lukes father.
>Leia was laying down when we meet her
>Greedo is greedy
>Han Solo is a loner when we meet him
>Luke Skywalker is named after Lucas and he is a skilled pilot
>Lando is met at a landing pad
>Jabba the Hutt is shaped like a hut
>Darth Maul mauls qui gon
>Count Dooku is shit

See the pattern?

http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/news/george-lucas-and-the-cult-of-darth-vader-20050602

>"Darth" is a variation of dark. And "Vader" is a variation of father. So it's basically Dark Father. All the names have history, but sometimes I make mistakes – Luke was originally going to be called Luke Starkiller, but then I realized that wan't appropriate for the character. It was appropriate for Anakin, but not his son. I said, "Wait, we can't weigh this down too much – he's the one that redeems him."

>leia was laying down when we meet her

Nothing Lucas says or said about his creative process or intentions can really be taken seriously, he's the king of "I meant to do that". If you believe Lucas, you believe Greedo always shot first, artoo was always meant to go into a cave he couldn't fit into because it was blocked by a boulder that they didn't have the technology to simulate in the 70's, Yoda trained Obi Wan, but also that Yoda didn't train Obi Wan, and probably that he invented midichlorians in 1968

>>
>>63185683
This. In the first Star Wars movie, Vader and Luke's father were intended as separate characters, but that was changed for Empire. NEVER trust Lucas' word on any of this. He is a notorious liar about the history of Star Wars.

parodies of shit inbetween the movies or right near when empire came out probably give the best impressions.
