This season started out great and has great characters, but the gaping plot holes have lessened the dramatic power of the dramatic performances, culminating particularly in the last episode.

Season One gets the nod. Billy Bob kicks ass.

Season 1 - 8.5
Season 2 - 9.5

Lester and Lorne Malvo were great, but Season 1 also had a few shitty and boring subplots. I also think the music and cinematography are better in season 2.

S1 sandbagged itself with those weakass final episodes. fast-forwarding an entire year took a lot of urgency out of the narrative, plus interesting characters like the deaf hitman and the grocery king were dropped completely.

plus it was ridiculous how Molly barely factored into the final episode

I'm a sucker for the aesthetics of S2. Love the classic cars and the styles. S1 just didn't grab me. Liking S2 though.

However, the fact that Minnesotans in this show can't finish sentences and speak slower than a West Virginian redneck drunk on his backwoods retard juice is incredibly frustrating.
