Stop apologising for him. He took one of RTD's only good concepts and ruined it. The War Doctor is boring and shit. I felt embarrassed for Jon Hurt.

I love that Time War video, I also like the way it plays out, 8 gets dragged into the War still somewhat heroic, falls and the becomes angry 9.

> The War Doctor is boring
I didn't care the addition of the War doctor, a secret celebrity Doctor? whoop de do.

im middle of the road about Clara. didn't like her at all in series 7. bland and perky.

In series 8 they gave her more depth and in series 9 they went with the idea of the perky positive companion and made it into a character flaw. we got to see something interesting play out.

strangely enough I'm still meh about her.

Actual quote:
DOCTOR: No. The forces that are being summoned into corporeal existence in that house are more powerful and more dangerous than anything even I have ever encountered. Stay here.
LAURENCE: I've an old hunting rifle that might come in useful.
DOCTOR: I never carry firearms.
(The Doctor leaves.)
LAURENCE: What I meant was that I should feel better if I could bring it.

Again, carrying firearms is not the same as using them, he's used laser weapons similar to guns countless times and he's even used 21st century human guns a few times too

there is something weird and camp about it, but it looks aesthetic (unlike New Who).

I want the guy in the foreground the be a companion. Just a guy. Not amazing. Has flaws.

I want the show to look nicer.

I have a ridiculous amount of hate for literally everything Moffat does.

I want Doctor Who to become like the show Rome. A joint HBO/BBC venture. BBC crew with HBO money.

Ace was peak companion, nobody before or after will ever come close, Ace becoming a Time Lord was actually plausible.

Ace: abused as a child, becomes bitter with the world and desperate to be normal, Doctor takes her and moulds her into a confident adventurer

Clara: headstrong upstart from start to finish.

They weren't allowed to say it because it's technically a children's show.

ACE: What's she called?
KATHLEEN: Audrey.
(Ace stiffens.)
KATHLEEN: What's the matter? Don't you like it?
ACE: I hate it. That's my mum's name. Here.
KATHLEEN: Come here, darling. Audrey.

You don't act that afraid at just a name unless someone did something to you, there are multiple other hints throughout her run that her and her mum had more trouble than who was having the last bowl of rice pudding.

>>
After over a billion years you'd figure there would be so many skulls their wouldn't be any water left.

I hope we get a little exposition next ep to clarify things. So the doctor was trapped inside the confession dial, presumably hacked by the time lords. And their intention was to slowly have him reveal all his secrets before dying once. But he screwed with their plan by choosing to die faster, and do his own hack to stay alive. Were they aware the doctor was in a loop, yet unable to do anything about it? If the doctor's behavior in each loop was fairly consistent I guess they'd stop monitoring him after a while. Though highlighting some inconsistencies between loops would been interesting towards the end of the episode. Were the stars he viewed, as seen from or near Earth or from the position of where Gallifrey is currently located or simply a generated evolving view not related to where the dial actually was. Then there is how much time passed outside the dial relative to how much time passed inside it. And why even provide a means of escape no matter how ridiculously improbable.

He didn't just confess to being the Hybrid though, he said:
You can probably still hear me... so just between ourselves... you've got the prophecy wrong. The Hybrid is not half Dalek. Nothing is half Dalek. The Daleks would never allow that. The Hybrid destined to conquer Gallifrey and stand in its ruins... is me.

That could have just been a threat to scare the Gallifreans, after all he was interned for two billion years by them.

Id be annoyed if the episode ends with Doctor "destroying" gallyfriey and sending the time lords to another dimension (returning the show back to nu-who status quo)

For those that don't get the joke, Peter Harness wrote kill the moon, the abortion reference one and the Zygon invasion, the ISIS reference one.

I've actually really loved this series and expected Heaven Sent to be a disappointment. Instead I got an episode that completely demands my attention even after I've finished watching it.

The mystery felt legitimate and impossible to solve. The fear Capaldi portrayed felt incredibly real, and certainly the Veil helped with that. Rachel's directing was easily some of the best in all of Doctor Who. The shift inside the Doctor's mind from when he's rambling about his chances of remaining conscious after he's done falling to when he actually hits the water- with the TARDIS slowly powering back on as he already starts to admit how defeated he feels, is spectacular.

And of course there's that cycle at the end, which poses all sorts of existential questions. No matter how you look at it, Moffat actually killed the Doctor. The last Doctor that breaks through the diamond wall has no memory or recollection of what the first Doctor who came through the teleporter did. He's essentially a clone with all the same memories, same biological structure, but he's not the same Doctor we've been following since 1963. That piece of it just amazes me.

Add to that all the little hints you pick up once you know the twist- the lake full of skulls, the clothes by the fire, the old painting- and it just comes together as arguably the most tightly written hour of Doctor Who I've ever seen. It was perfect.
>>
>>63168237
it would be an allegory for abortion with the teleportation clones being representation on the unborn.
>>
So now that Gallifrey is back, will we finally see what happened to Susan, Romana and Leela?
>>
>>63168334
No.
>>
>>63167697
How many times did 12 go through that cycle? As one skull disintegrated, another one fell into the lake.

I assume the dial was time locked or something. Time inside the dial passed much faster that time outside the dial. It hardly matters.
>>
Surely most here got the twist as soon as the hand pulled the lever at the start right?

>>
>>63168334

>>
>>63168334
Too much continuity and exposition to sort through for something the casual audience wouldn't really care about.
>>
>>63168325
I thought the one that comes out is the original somehow.
>>
>>63168421
did get it all but yeah saw the hand and thought, that's the Doctor. same in Time Heist. if your wondering Who? its usually him.
>>
>>63168421
Nope. Took me until the clothes swap, and even then I didn't realize how far it would go
>>
>>63168255
Doesn't matter, anything that reminds me of those movies induces only disgust.
>>
>>63168486
I think most of us want to believe that. To him, it just feels like he went through the teleporter, went through hell, and then broke through a diamond wall. He feels like the original. But he's not. Every episode before this one, we see a Doctor whose ultimate fate is to die to the veil and use their remaining brain energy to clone themselves.

It still baffles me that Moffat actually killed him and it fits perfectly fine in the canon.
>>
>>63168334
Didn't the 1st Doctor leave Susan on Earth?
>>
>>63168334
Do you count Big Finish canon? If so, we find out that Leela becomes a torture victim who once exposed to regular time and a non-Gallifreyan atmosphere, starts to age incredibly fast. She dies hoping that the Doctor will come save her. She was later reborn as a little girl who sort of retained her memories. Or something like that.
>>
>>63168581
Wouldn't that mean he kills himself EVERY time he teleports? I mean, he totally disassembles the original and assembles it again out of the atoms in a new place, it's pretty much the same
>>

>>
>>63168590
Ten and Eleven implied that the Doctor's family was wiped out by the Time War. So it is likely Susan made her way back to Gallifrey.
>>
>>63168743
Do it for 8, mate. You can ignore the rest of the shit though.
>>
>>63168672
Yes. The original died, and then a billion clones died, and the last clone made it out.

His conscious doesn't carry over into the new clone, just flesh and blood. If I somehow clone myself, with all the same memories and everything, and I die, before my clone is born, does my consciousness somehow carry over into the clone? Of course not.
>>
>>63168710
Because he was always meant to escape
>>
>>63168421
Had a suspicion when the clothes swap happened.
>>
>>63168757
>>63168710
Because it was the exit. You can't reset the exit because it's partially outside of the dial.
>>
>>63168325
Well, considering this isn't the first time he's been teleported, essentially he died a loooong time ago.
>>
>>63168757
>just because
Because it was connected to the real world, the place can't reset things outside of it.
>>
>>63168865
Oh you're talking about with every teleport he's ever used. Fair point. The difference there is his consciousness carries over.
>>
>>63166940
I feel bad for Smith, he would have been a great doctor if he wasn't plagued by memes and bad plotlines.
>>
>>63168909
Yeah, I guess. But considering he plugs his head into the teleporter, it's still his energy being used to create himself again.

I mean, if he'd just sonic the machine then die, I'd be more inclined like you do, but considering it was his own energy that created his clone, I kind of feel like it's just another reset of sorts, he resets back to his original state.
>>
>>63168672
Pretty much, disassembly and then reassembly would disrupt the stream of conciousness derived from sensory input and abstract thought, effecively killing the self. ignore that, pulled it out my ass.

The doctor was being copied from a single imprint in the, for want of a better term, hard drive. Each one was the doctor, all but one died in the hope of one day an iteration making it out.

Hell, his entire body except his skull basically disintegrates, and it does it at the same moment the teleporter powers up, so essentially his consciousness does travel into the clone, just resets his memory to an earlier point, like a memory wipe.

Either way, whether he "died" or not, it's one of the reasons I love Heaven Sent. It raises questions like these. I still like to think he actually died, and yet you don't have to think of it that way. There's enough sci-fi to argue either way.

My headcanon is: Ashildr signs the Doctor over to them, under threat of destroying her city, the Timelords then put him in the confession dial, which basically projects a copy of you to simulate going through it, the goal of the confession dial is to make the Doctor confess what the Hybrid is, but he glitches the system and opens the door through breaking the azbantium, which isn't part of the confession dial and is just put there as an unbreakable barrier to prevent him leaving, the entire thing uses a combination of perceived reality manipulation and Dimensional transcendentalism to make the person believe he's really there, when he broke out his original form was restored.

I mean, that's what I choose to believe but the truth is the Doctor died, one hundred and four billion times.

>>
>>63169103
Actually, there are kind of lots of white/crystal shit on the ground in the last scene before he gets through it.

>>63169174
Oh yeah, I totally agree. For me it's more a personal thing that I just don't like the idea of the Doctor dying for real, I mean, I do agree that each clone died but I can still figure out a way to keep the new Doctor being the original (in a way, or at least like a teleporter). Hell, we can even add into the mix River's "death" in the way of her "consciousness" still being inside 10s screwdriver, that just didn't have a body.
>>
>>63169098
The doctor actually dies. There is no transfer of conciousness, just a copy made three days before he dies. Nothing he experiences is transferred, he and his memories cease to exist. A new doctor enters and runs through everything again.

I'd just adventure around time and space forever, bringing people what they needed. Could be a cocky British Timelord to swagger about and save the day accidentally or supplies or tech or medicine or whatever, I'd just float about the Continuum helping out people who needed it. I'd definitely not have a no killing rule though, sometimes fuckers need killing.

It was capaldi in a room, thats why it was good.
Any other doctor wouldn't have been able to pull it off.
And he remembers the whole thing at the final moment each time so he remembered the final time that he was in there for all those years.
>>
>>63169103
I thought there were chunks on the floor- you can see them towards the end of the death cycle. If not it doesn't really bother me. Abzantium is made up- it could be that when it breaks it disintegrates into impossibly tiny pieces that, over time, scatter around Room 12 and disappear during the reset.

Or maybe the Veil likes to clean up after he kills someone. A very tidy spook.
>>
>>63169180
>>63169281
I like that. It kind of makes sense.

>>63169312
I'm not arguing that he dies, I'm arguing that his "essence", the energy used to create the new clone, is more than just "a clone", it's essentially the original Doctor just with his experience the last few days removed, or rather him reverted back to his original state. I just like the idea that his own energy is being used to create the new him, which makes it more like a rebirth ala phoenix than just being a battery for a harddrive.
>>
>>63169285
despite Smiths antics he has a natural weirdness and great energy. he needed better direction or to age 10 years

I don't think he remembered the final moments. He just started saying the story over and over again because he knew what BIRD meant. It was a way to give him motivation to go through insufferable pain trying to punch through the Abzantium wall, with the knowledge that he almost certainly wouldn't succeed that time.

Drunk giraffe dance, general arm waggling. I get through by imagining the entire run of 11 was just a hallucination brought on by the radiation just before he regenerates into Capaldi, his awful Tardis, awful Doctor and awful storylines were just a radiation crazed frenzy.
>>
>>63169491
Well, perhaps he kicked out into the hallway in frustration when he realizes he needs to punch a fucking wall until he dies. I don't know.

Maybe he every once in a while just thought "fuck this, I ain't punching this, let's see if I can kick this piece of Azbantium into The Veil's head hard enough so he dies, but considering there's chunks of Azbantium over there, I might have tried it, but it's not like I know unless I do try it, so here goes nothing!"

That part doesn't get reset, the Abzantium, like the Doctor and his skulls are not part of the confession dial's prison and as such do not reset, the Abzantium was a 1mm thick piece put on the door to stop the Doctor just walking out of the confession dial, the fact it's 20 feet thick is because the confession dial is uses transdimensional engineering.
