Netflix, HBO Now, Hulu, Amazon Prime.

All of these combined are cheaper than a standard cable subscription. Who the fuck still has cable and why.
>>
>>63159807
The only reason I do, is because I'm stuck with shitty Comcast and it comes out cheaper to get it bundled with cable.
>>

Satellite TV here in the UK is comically expensive now and yet people see it as a necessity.

You get plenty of channels on free to air if you really feel like sitting in front of the TV every fucking night, £50 a month for extra channels that STILL stuffed with adverts even though you pay extra.. total bullshit yet even poor people can't live without it.
>>
some people actually like to watch shows as they air and not beg for streams on /tv/

muh sports, other than that the only reason to get cable is because you like to get brainwashed by advertising more than you like to watch actual programs, since the advertising actually takes up more time on most channels.

Because I dislike going to TV JUST to turn on a show. Part of the novelty of TV is channel surfing, live/real time content, and feeling part of something that is ongoing rather than just sitting in front of something, putting on a show, and waiting to be entertained. The interaction is what I like about TV.
>>
>>63161292

Think of it like a primal thing, what do poor people like to do besides spending far too much and getting into debt? Drinking and fucking, when they see a really filthy slag walking the street they admire or another female who's puss they want to crush, they won't hesitate to bring them over for "Netflix and chill", so them saying they've got a big arsed TV with all the latest technological features is kind of like how animals like to display their chests in the wild and punch it to exert their dominance so they can fuck. If the poor person actually manages to succeed in mating with a really stupid female then chances are that will lead to the reproduction of retarded off spring which both unlikely parents after their registered wedding reception can use to milk the benefits system so they can sit on their arse all day and night watching shite TV.
>>
>>63161402
Im pretty sure streaming services have reduced pirating
>>
99% of netflix is intellectual property that can't produce a return anymore, they're more than happy to dump it off to a third party in exchange for a small but consistent stream of revenue

netflix is great as a supplement but it doesn't work as a primary source of entertainment if you watch tv very much at all
>>
>>63161546

Yeah man. I mean I'll watch independence Day any time it's on TV, any time I see it while scrolling through the guide, and I'll have a great time watching it. But I'm never going to actually sit down specifically to watch Independence Day. The spontaneity is half the value. Like when a great song comes on during shuffle vs. just putting it on yourself.

false, MLB started showing in-market

and all of them show right after the game is archived anyways

you can only pay attention to 1 game at a time, have fun trying to say that DVR'ing shit or then spending the rst of your week watching Sportscenter to see highlights is any different than just watching the games

it takes less time to see all the NFL games condensed (cut from end of play whislte to next snap) than it does for you to sit there for 11 hours on sunday and watch 3 games

Hughesnet used to be called Directway. They were (and still are) so shit that DirecTV sued them for damaging their brand, and won, forcing them to change their name to hughesnet.

As far as sattelite in general goes, you're paying 2-3 times as much for 250-500mb a day of "unlimited" bandwidth, and when you go over, its worse than dialup, but they allow full speed like 6 hours a day.

Programming scheduling. I like background noise of TV with a reliable schedule that I don't need to constantly micromanage myself, and I like standard cable scheduling.

If I could find a software that would automatically mimic cable scheduling I would switch. By that, I mean:

At 7am play episode 1 of Stargate. At 8am play Star Trek, at 9am play the next show.

Then the next day, automatically move up to the next episode in each of those series, and loop back to episode 1 when the series ends.

There is no media software I could find that could do this. Only ones that could go sequentially through a single show.

Either that or spend a month manually making a playlist show by show, fuck that.

Also I'm Canadian so Hulu, HBO and Amazon aren't available and Netflix is the retarded step child version with nothing good.
>>
>>63168227
what do you do about commericials?

>>63159807

>Who the fuck still has cable

you'll be old and retarded one day, too
>>
>>63168321

I assume you mean the lack of commercials causing the shows to not all line up at 8am, 9am, etc?

Yeah that's a downside. I guess I'd just have the schdule offset so each show basically starts every 40-45 minutes. So long as it could keep the scheduling, and move episode number automatically I'd be happy.
>>
Cable makes be discover things, it's part of the aspect of channel surfing. Half the more obscure shows/documentaries I've ever seen came from randomly stumbling on them while scrolling a channel. This would happen a lot less if I was just just using a streaming service (I haven't discovered much new that I enjoyed with NEtflix compared to cable)

Also spontaneity. If I see some movie I enjoy on cable, I'll get into it. But I pretty much will never specifically go to watch those movies on Netflix.

>All of these combined are cheaper than a standard cable subscription.

Thats how they fucking get you bitch.
They give you those cheap ass prices for the first 10 years and than when they know everyone in the country is addicted to their services they jack up the price from $10 a mouth to $80 a mouth.

Cable was only $14.99 to $17.99 per month from 1990 to 2000. And there were so such thing as different "Packages" with different set prices.

They gave you all cable channels with the exception of movie channels like HBO or Pay per view for $14.99 to $17.99 a month depending on your state.

15 years from now when cable is no longer a thing thanks to Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime you'll start hearing people bitching about how they hate having to pay $49.99 for just one of those services you listed there.

>Well I wont pay it than if it goes up
Thats what your parents said back in the 80s and 90s about paying for tv by getting cable. It's hard to cut your entreatment once you are in your 40s and watching your shows is the only part of the day you look forward to after work.

Same with Netflix. You still don't own the show or movie tho.
The moment they don't renew their contract for the show with the studio you are no longer able to watch your favorite tv show.
Buy a tv show in 1999 and unless you treat it like crap or store it improperly you can still watch it today in 2016

Hell I've got Disney VHS tapes from 1985 that still play fine with zero issues other than the loss of a little color to this very day.

Plenty of stuff is available for free by the official channels on their website not to mention airing for free to begin with. Then there's the matter of stuff that doesn't even air in your country.

Anything below 46" is small to me but if you're cool with the size it could work.
If its not 120 it's still going to be HD but you're not getting the best picture quality. Even standard dvds look way better with a 120 refresh rate. If you don't have much to hook up to the tv two HDMI ports is ok but If you're like me you need at least three to four.

It's a nice brand and it's better than nothing. The price is ok but it's just not for me. Only you know what you're going to be hooking up to it and using it for. Plus I don't know how picky you are about picture quality.

Netflix streaming is ass and has been for the past 3 years. Its only worth it to pay more for the physical media mailing service, as that gives you access to their entire catalog, not just the trash they have streaming rights to. I have enjoyed some their original content though.

Prime is only worth it if you know you are going to use all of the available services on a regular basis. Same issue for the streaming as Netflix in my experience.

HBO Now...I know little about it because there's not enough there to get me interested in paying for it. It is cool they have finally been able to offer their service independent of needing a sat/cable sub though.

I like Hulu the most over all. Good selection of current shows. I like the selection of old movies, and old shows.

All that said I actually pay for none of them. I 95% download/stream, occasionally buying a bluray, and rarely buying a dvd if there's no bluray copy.

Lol, poor people are obsessed with "measuring up", they're trying to prove to the world that they aren't pieces of shit and they are worth something (which they aren't)
It's human nature to want what you can't have, in their case they look on TV and see their role models, the Kardashians and co, living it up in a lifestyle that is completely reversed to their own, they want to have that aspect of life so desperately that they've deluded themselves into thinking they're similar because they have trivial vanities such as big tvs and nice cars

>poor people value what they have

Maybe enlightened poor people, but the vast majority are poor for a reason, they're not exactly bright and too caught up in living their day to day lives to stop and consider metaphysical ideas
