Well it's tough to do war movies where you're following soldiers of one side and not demonise the enemy to an extent. You can look at eg All Quiet for Hollywood movies that don't do this about WWI, but there we're following only Germans. Maybe you could hop from side to side, but it doesn't seem especially promising as a conceit. Probably best just to accept WWII as a brute fact and major contributor to the very path-dependent state of play regarding modern historical war movies.
Obviously, I agree that war movies that don't do this (while not, in the specific case of WWII, whitewashing the Nazis) are better. But better films are better, no big insight there, and most films aren't better. Die Welt ist alles was der Fall ist, hein?
