>The Office UK

Real characters, subtle jokes, Brent is a real guy trying to be respected rather than a wacky boss. You can see how he got his job and how he ends it.

>The Office US

i like it when people look at the camera and smirk.
>>
>>63145994
The US version was more entertaining, the UK version was more realistic.

by the end of the US version i didn't believe in anything that was happening but i didn't really care.

by the end of the UK version I thought that they were all real people and it was an actual documentary. (i watched it back when it was brand new ok)

You pretty much just pointed out the two different kinds of humour both countries enjoy.
The UK love seeing people in the situations David Brent put himself and others in.
Whereas Americans can't handle that and just want something digestible and inoffensive.

Not just Americans.
I hate second hand embarrassment and try to avoid it.
>>

Agree with this.

Also feel like the series dabbed after season 7 when Steve left.
>>
If the US Office wanted to be accurate, they should have filmed the show at McDonald's or Foot Locker.
>>
>>63145994
The reason UK office was so much of a hit was because people could relate to it, and knew people like Brent, bullshit middle management assholes who thought they were great. It captures the grimness and depression that many people in near minimum wage office jobs face

US Office just goes off the rails into generic sitcom in an Office setting

Not true, it was winning all the British awards, and was the first British comedy to win a Golden Globe

might have gotten a few awards here and there, but it doesn't mean it was popularized. Lots of shows and movies win awards but that doesn't imply that they were in the minds of many people. U.K office only got popular after the U.S version's success and then a bunch of hipsters and contrarians decided to give the "original" a look and though it was better.
>>
>>63147323
Maybe if you're a pleb in some dumbfuck country, but The Office was very popular in the UK

Yes unlike in America where everything is milked forever, the UK has a history of ending shows when they've reached their creative peak

Called going out on a high (Same with Fawlty Towers), something US comedies don't really do because they're milked until god awful

Gervais and Merchant did what they wanted to do and then went onto to do other stuff and the BBC actually respected that and let them do their other projects.
Strange concept for an American to grasp, I'm sure.

couldn't have been more perfect
we're even happy for brent at the end, because he's such a pitiful character who finally stands up for himself
i love it
it's flawless
>>
>>63147425
>US comedy
Milked with 24 episode seasons for 10 seasons. By the end the characters are milked to death and just saying funny words and memes.

>UK comedy
2-5 seasons of about 6 episodes and goes out on a high, creators move onto another project with different characters and potential for stories

Is what British people tell themselves to make themselves feel better? the show was shit, the rating were shit, and they needed it to be canned. "Ending it on a high note" is like quitting a sports game while you're ahead.

lol europoor logic. TV is supposed to make money. If your show is popular, you milk it till the cow stops cumming its bux.
>>
Problem is, I don't fucking understand the main character in the UK version properly.
>>
I watched both and honestly liked the US version better. Fight me senpai.
>>
>>63146050
>more entertaining
idk, alot of the show is relationshit filler.
>>
>>63147714
The real reason was that Ricky Gervais said to himself, "British people suck so I am going to take my idea over to the great United States where I'm not worthy but I hope they will allow me to help them produce the show and so they it have greater success than it ever did in crappy old England", and thats what happened.

Dwight was funnier than Garreth. Aside from David the Office UK had forgetable characters.

the U.S version was funnier, if you disagree you're just trying to be a contrarian. The U.K characters weren't nearly as developed as the U.S ones. Michaels hate towards Toby was hilarious. Creed had some good moments. Dwight was great at the beginning. Ryan manipulating Michael while Michael had a semi-gay love towards Ryanwas funny. Jim and Pam had their moments. Andy was fucking cancer. The Micahel Scott Paper Company was a terrific story arch.
Seriously, the U.S version was so much funnier and more developed it's not even comparable, two completely different shows

Posts like these are always the biggest loads of shit in every Office thread, you can tell who either A) is biased B) has only really watched one version or C) nitpicks the most convenients aspects to hate the US version.

The truth is that the US version was incredible in its second, third and maybe fourth seasons, which were the seaons that really built the show and its universe. It was subtle, it was funny, it had characters that felt real, but it also emphasized their personal lives a lot more. They got a lot of mileage out of Michael's loneliness and desperation for being the "cool boss" and went into different territorries the UK version didn't. I could rewatch seasons 2 and 3 any day and they'd still be good, there are a shitton of classic episodes in those. The fact that the show went to shit afterwards is only a testament to the old american way of never knowing when to stop.

Also, Tim's most famous shot includes him looking at the camera and smirking.

Jesus Christ it's like you've never seen a British sitcom before. Of course it's a cringefest.

The whole point of soaps are that they are always on, if you wanted to get into Coronation Street you would not back to episode 1 you would just watch the new episode tonight and go from there.

Doctor Who is always switching actors and writers to keep it fresh and plus it got cancelled once for 10 years.
