Do good japanese movies exist?
If you know, tell me (even anime movie)
Recently I watched Millenium Actress, but I didn't like it too much, the storyline was too repetitive

>Do good japanese movies exist?
Of course
>Good anime
No.
Osu, Kurosawa, Miyazaki, the list goes on

For example?

>three directors
Wow thank you for the good list
>>63145956
I don't know Osu, some nice title?
Anyone good today that's active besides Miike though?
>>63145989
>needing any more when you have Kurosawa
You can't seriously be this ignorant, can you?
>>63145944
If you like trash movie, this is perfect
"Good" is such a relative term.
Satoshi Kon is a genius, and I prefer his work to any Ghibli films, but Ghibli are still great.
That's where my knowledge of Anime ends, apart from a few works by Makoto Shinkai, Ghost in the Shell, Akira and Cowboy Bebop.
As for live action:
Akira Kurosawa
Ozu
Yamanaka
Imamura
Mizoguchi
They are the "legends" of Japanese cinema.
>>63145995
Shinya Tsukamoto is probably my favourite Non-English contemporary director.

Versus is equally Shit/Amazing.

Yes.

>Versus is equally Shit/Amazing.
Versus is way better than Casshern because it's not some melodramatic piece of shit anti-war drama suddenly.
>>63146055
I asked for anyone contemporary besides Miike and you give me animu shit and a bunch of dead guys.
I'm only asking because most nip movies look like they're made-for-TV except for Miike's.
>>63146186
You fucking massive cunt, I specifically stated Tsukamoto after quoting your post. The rest wasn't aimed at you.
>>63145977
last time i checked google was up
I liked My Female Teacher is My Lesbian Pet 6.
Imamura
Ichikawa
Ozu
Yoshida
Kurosawa
Oshima
Kobayashi
Mizoguchi
Naruse
Teshigara
that's a start
>>63146218
Fuck, I didn't know, sorry if I asked a question to a interactive big community
>>63146323
hello reddit
Any recent movies?
>>63145995
Miike has a dew good movies and a lot of bad ones
Shinya Tsukamoto was great in the 90s and is kinda ok now
Takeshi Kitano and Kiyoshi Kurosawa are great but their best films are from the 90s
Tetsuya Nakashima is great too, and his notable work is post 2000
Kitano is literally the greatest living Japanese director.
No one mentioned Sion Sono yet?
>>63145944

>>63149066
is there a version "without pretentious shit" or will that be empty?
>>63145944
Just pick anything by Akira Kurosawa, you can't go wrong. My favorite is Rashomon, but if you're into samurai watch Seven Samurai and Yojimbo.
If you want anime stuff:
Toki Wo Kakeru Shoujo
Tokyo Godfathers
Akira
>>63149066
i'm missing Okuribito (Departures) on that list.
>>63148270
Worst Kurosawa list i've seen. Paprika and Spirited away were both shit too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqXelhHjNkU
best movie i've found so far.

>being this try hard patrician
Do good American movies exist?
>>63145989
>>63145944
Almost all of Kurosawa's Samurai shit is bad.
Too long, too fucking badly acted, too retarded in human interactions.
Kagemusha is good because it looks FANTASTIC.
Ikiru is good because its not retarded melodrama samurai shit.
Sword of Doom was much better than any samurai shit of Kurosawa but still really bad movie felt like TV-episode.
Watch Ozu.
Ozu is much better.
>>63145944
Godzilla movies that didn't costar King Kong, destroyah, or Mothra in the 1990s
Yojimbo (it's the movie that inspired man with no name)
Gamera's 90s trilogy
Princess mononoke if you like animation
I liked this a lot
>>63145944
I thought Otoko-tachi no Yamato was one of the better war films made since the 90's
>>63149066
misses Tetsuo and Tokyo Fist
Teshigahara and Kobayashi are the best japanese directors desu senpai
If you haven't seen either of their best films you can't judge japanese films yet. Watch Woman In The Dunes & Harakiri. Kwaidan and The Face of Another after those.

The annoying liberal sentimentalism aside I find Kobayahsi to be too limited a director. You don't get the same scope as you do with someone like Kurosawa. He knows how to arrange things to make a nice looking shot but if we take Harakiri as an example that's all there is. Very little dynamic camera movement, standard (if good) composition of shots, very traditional and plain editing. I really enjoy Harakiri but the more Kobayashi I watch the more it's obvious that he is very limited.

>Blue Spring
Nice, nobody ever mentions it for some reason.
That and 9 Souls by the same director are some of my favorite movies.
