Films by Satyajit Ray, Mani Kaul, Amit Dutta are basically in line with European arthouse.
Anurag Kashyap is a contemporary director who makes gritty, realistic (i.e. no dancing) films that are also surprisingly popular.
Ship of Theseus is a recent Indie film that was surprisingly original and very philosophical and non-Bollywood. Also the director is a karagarga user.
