Tim & Eric are usually making fun of something specific. The key to their success is that they distance themselves from the original and the inherent comedy of it, creating something that stands on its own.
The great thing is, no one really knows how to copy it. People that try, usually fail. They have to develop their own flare to get something that works.

First season Eric Andre was really good I think. Friends and I found every episode pretty hilarious and he and Hannibal went well together.
Then, and I don't know how else to describe it, but it seemed to shift into being more like Tim and Eric. But it wasn't even like Tim and Eric, despite those guys clearly producing the show, but a weird, bastardized version of their humor. The second season had similar shticks like the "photoshopping someone's eyes and awkwardly zooming on it as a scene's ending transition" more and more often.
I like to think Eric Andre did pretty much whatever he wanted for the first season, then the second season was manipulated by T&E, or at least people who worked with T&E and thought they understood that brand of humor (hint: they didn't), and the third season followed the same pattern. In fact it got worse somehow, as I thought Ranch It Up from season 2 was pretty funny then they did it again in season 3 and I just kind of cringed at it.
I watched their movie the first time, thought it was retarded as hell. Watched it again and laughed my ass off.

I enjoyed the awesome show a lot but Check it out is so much better. The editing is flawless most of the time and the acting is just great. Reilly's a genius.

I love Tim and Eric but the YouTube "comedians" that they've inspired are the worst thing in the world.
The majority of the content they produced during Awesome Show was based on parody of TV, public access TV and obscure/cartoony edit jokes by DJ Douggpound and the like. A lot of people are put off by it because they don't see the point or think its purely 'random' which is fine. I personally enjoy the fact that it's not for everybody. Most of my friends who don't like it or 'get' it are typically unfunny and take things too seriously. What I enjoy about Tim and Eric and Neil Hamburger etc, is they are masters at fake sincerity. The humour isn't always obvious and they won't let you off the hook if you take something they're joking about seriously. I guess over the years from watching other things they've done plus interviews and podcasts, I've developed a taste for the detached, insincere way of speaking. I didn't always enjoy what they did but over years it grew on me and now I can't get enough. I like the fact that everything is or can be a joke and the notion that most things are stupid and people are stupid for enjoying them.
As for the whole Anti-comedy thing, I think if it's done right, with a real sense of "this is stupid and we're making fun of it" it can be funny but if it's done for the sake of not being funny with hopes of being funny or 'rando' I find it unbearable. Old spice commercials ( I think Tim and Eric actually directed a few commercials but still), skittles commercials etc are horrendous and annoying.
If you don't like Tim and Eric or that style of humour that's fine. Go watch Tosh.0 or MTV and move on with your life
