The Grudge american remake

It's just so fucking boring and bad compared to the original.

It's unbelievably obnoxious if you're not a teenager. It's Scream minus any subtlety. It's Mean Girls minus any humor. It's Scott Pilgrim minus any creativity. It's essentially just some movies that weren't even that great to begin with being mixed into something shittier. It wreaks of desperate attempts to appeal to the "young people" and falls flat on its face by somehow thinking that any modern teenager would be obsessed with obscure bands and awkwardly worded ironic 90s skater phrases. Those kinds of kids are not the cool kids, they're the fucking tumblr and reddit-tier hipster outcasts. Also everyone was a shitty actor and the slapstick was so forced. Just a shit experience.

And by today's standards it's a piece of shit. You could show me some plinky plonky wooden shack that apparently progressed architecture by hundreds of years. Even a relatively unremarkable movie made today like Zodiac is better on literally every level so why would I ever pretend to be impressed by citizen kane? Even if it was "important">

That's not even part of it. There are movies from the 1910's I love. I think it's something to do with the massive influence it's had on so many other films I've seen having rendered it somewhat bland. Even if it was innovative for its time, I've seen it all before in later films.

Every time I try to watch this and cant get through. Even when I pick up where I left off (2/3rds into the movie) I can never finish it.

This is Kurosawa's best film, easily. The story, the acting, the way the scenes are framed, the heightened suspense...everything about this is Kurosawa at his best.........but i cant get to the end........

>By that logic we shouldn't have, like, watch, etc. anything that isn't current top-of-the-line stuff because everything else other than that is a piece of shit.
There is space between top of the line and "piece of shit" but life is short. Why would you spend your time with things that are less than optimal? If you were having heart surgery would you opt for some hundred year old technique because other people tell you it was so revolutionary and important or would you pick the best of modern technology?

>>
>>63011258
You are so fucking retarded that it isn't even funny. You should probably go to a doctor because you might seriously have brain damage.

He died during the war, during the beginning of the movie. They practically beat you over the head with that information in a subtle way to keep you crying out "COP OUT" when it actually happens. The entire movie and why it's happening is actually stated in the fucking film
> The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, he said. They're freeing your soul. So, if you're frightened of dying and... and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth.
>>
>>63011373
No, because the hobbit is a badly executed drawn out trainwreck based on a simplistic childrens book. Films aren't good by the virtue of being new. But a good movie by today's standards blows the fuck out of a good movie by the standards of the 30s.

Considering he got the idea for the movie from a nightmare, the director had to cut out scenes because it was overtly scary, was vastly inspired from images of hell and heaven, I'm pretty sure it was made to be a horror, or at the very least a significant horror presence, which it was.

Honestly, I like the final cut and thought they had just the right amount of disturbing scenes. Too much would take away from the whole effect of them.

There are three deleted scene that have been released, and I think the film works better without them.

I'm not denying that this film has horror elements, but Jacob's Ladder has so much more focus on the character of Jacob and the drama surrounding his life than the horror. The horror is just apart of his life. If you call this film a horror film, you might as well call Mulholland Drive a horror film.
