Well, I think you all dont understand something.
There is a shitload of TV houses around the globe, private and national.
Many of them specialize in quality TV, they buy licence for various shows and on many occasion you can watch The Knick, Leftovers,Hannibal,Fargo etc on the same channel.
You all are really that deft to think 2x4 minutes commercials could pay for production of one The Knick,Fargo,Hannibal, or The Rome(scratch that , HBO is story for itself).

The Knick will return money just with 20 licences, other 100 licences are pure profit, problem is, shit like TWD can get 1000 licences, they are slowly cashing in first season in some countries.
