>Chungking Express is a 1994 Hong Kong drama film written and directed by Wong Kar-wai. The film consists of two stories told in sequence, each about a lovesick Hong Kong policeman mulling over his relationship with a woman. The first story stars Takeshi Kaneshiro as a cop who is obsessed with the break-up of his relationship with a woman named May and his platonic encounter with a mysterious drug smuggler (Brigitte Lin). The second stars Tony Leung as a police officer who is roused from his gloom over the loss of his flight attendant girlfriend (Valerie Chow) by the attentions of a quirky snack bar worker (Faye Wong). The film depicts a paradox in that even though the characters live in densely-packed Hong Kong, they are mostly lonely and live in their own inner worlds.
omg this sounds clichés af worthy of an undergrad in philosophy.

>>62969982
Went to Hong Kong earlier in the year, it's pretty based and clean for the most part considering it's a massive asian city... Stayed down the road from Chungking station... As far as the movie goes, I thought it was alright, didn't really understand why it's so praised after watching it though...
>>62969982
damn FFVII remake lookin mighty fine
>>62970103
thought the same thing until i rewatched and it clicked and then I watched it again and again
Fallen Angels is -by far- the better version of Chungking.
Mood is WKW's best work.
2046 is underrated because nobody has seen enough of his filmography to put it together and denies it multiple viewings. Contender for his best film.
Days of Being Wild is p good too.

Where the fuck are you coming from with this? Kar-wai isn't obscure anymore, a huge amount of people have seen all of his features. Me and a good chunk of this board included.
>>62970521
Sure some people on an obscure Laotian shadow-puppetry forum have seen them but a majority had it. How do you explain 2046's failing despite how much there is to the film?
>>62970521
Edward Yang is better anyways, Kar Wai is a meme director at this point
>>62969655
>own a shrink-wrapped copy

What the fuck was up with Kar Wai's martial arts film that came out last year?
Why was it so bad,bros?
Fallen Angels is much better. You actually understand the movie when you actually watch it and the stories are much more solid.
Chungking Express is a movie that either requires multiple viewings or a careful analyzation (which is hilariously different for every person). It's actually a good concept, but
Don't get me wrong, I liked Chungking Express, but it's a movie for literal 2deep4u people who find various concepts of loneliness and love to be some sort of art. Fallen Angels on the otherhand is much more attached to reality and is less lovey-dovey.
>>62970156
you sound like a fucking loser and id love for you to be one of those people with undiagnosed heart conditions who die of a heart attack out of no where in their early twenties. id love for that to be you on christmas morning in front of your parents. how do you lack the self-awareness to see how unlikable you come off? get bent my man.

>>62970754
>how do you lack the self-awareness to see how unlikable you come off?
Oh, sweet irony.
>>62970729
Chungking Express is not a complicated film. It does not require careful analysis and multiple viewings to understand. You new, buddy? You make it through that IMDB Top 250 yet? Literally, LITERALLY, go back to /r/movies where you can continue peddling your fantasy that WKW is some kind of hidden gem director who makes impenetrable cinema.
>>62970754
You are the worst type of person. I just wanted you to know that. When you're unhappy and your life is shit, I want you to know it's entirely your fault. People don't hate you because your *insert your low self-esteem about weight, height, etc. here*, but because you're a terrible person.
The fact that you take the opportunity that 4chan and anonymity gives you, to be whoever you want to be, to be you without holding anything back, the fact that you take that and be this person? It says a lot.
I'm not upset. I'm not "mad bro". I'm disgusted, and I feel pity for you in a way, because deep down you know you are shit, and your life is your own fault, but you'll continue to be who you are anyways.
>>62970754

>Wong Chi-Ming's partner lives in the same building with Ho Chi Moo (Takeshi Kaneshiro), a crazy delinquent who escapes prison. She helps him elude the police when they are searching for him. Ho Chi Moo is mute and still lives with his father. For work, he breaks into other people's businesses at night and sells their goods and services, often forcibly to unwilling customers. He keeps running into the same girl at night, Charlie. Every time they meet, she cries on his shoulder and tells him the same sob story. Her ex-boyfriend Johnny left her for a girl named Blondie. Together they play games to look for Blondie, go see soccer matches at the stadium, hang out in restaurants, and take rides on his motorcycle. He falls in love. Somehow they lose touch for a few months but they run into each other while he's masquerading as a business owner. She's in a stewardess uniform, mentally fit, and in a new healthy relationship. She seems to have forgotten all about Ho Chi Moo.
this is horrendous.

If you're not a total poor fag or still in school (like me) this shouldn't be too much, the problem I have with Criterion is that it's so expensive and if I start with 1 I will likely need most of them, I'm planning to buy a shit bunch of movies when I finally have a job.
>>62973806
ho hi ho
Literally DUDE SO QUIRKY LMAO except with chinks making Breathless references
>>62973715
Kar-wai did a kung-fu flick, My Blueberry Nights and a car ad.
Try to find a fault in Chang-dong's filmography. You can't.
>>62970729
I have not got that from chungking express at all, I wouldn't have interpreted anything if I hadn't heard someone say that it's about how you can't really connect and have relationships in such a huge and anonymous city. I really just loved how the story was told, the acting and cinematography and the actors, I didn't give two fucks about a deeper meaning except for that it's weird that those people don't just get together.
You seem like an asshole
>>62970721
It's 2 years, almost 3 years old now.
I liked it, but of course it was more of a "do this shit here wkw"- some producer, than a true wkw movie.
