That deleted scene with Biggs tells us that the Empire was basically communism with taking away private property. In the tv spot you see he uses two hands to wield it. I don't know how he lasts more than 3 seconds against the black guy. Not that Finn is some master swordsman, but the stormtrooper can even effectively defend his left side with his limited range of motions. and it's a totally defensive weapon when it comes against a lightsaber.
