Damn, as nonsensical as it was, it was still bloody cool to see that thing crawl out of that canyon or whatever it was. Can't remember how good the effects were though

Reminder Jon Peters is a dumbass faggot who wanted this spider to be in a Superman movie.

Nah. He's just crazy in general.
Why else did he push the giant spider in "Wild Wild West?"
Kevin Smith wasn't involved.
Only his cousin Will Smith.

Only thing wrong with it was that it didn't have the epic original theme song in its soundtrack...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdbRn9cl0dk

Otherwise, it's weird ass, steampunk approach was a good fit for the original's bizarre plots, including a big-ass, steam-powered spider.

Underrated, 2bh.

I watched the documentary about Tim Burton's failed Superman reboot starring Nic Cage on Showtime, actually.
And, yes, Kevin Smith was talking shit, but we got other witnesses to confirm his story, including Jon Peters and Tim Burton.

Not sure if you guys remember the robot named AMEE from Red Planet - starring Val Kilmer?

Well, when Wild Wild West utterly TANKED at the box office, the studios began to look around for someone to blame because they couldn't accept the failure of this film. They settled on the mechanical Spider-Tank in the OP's picture. They blamed the writers for putting a spider tank in the movie, they blamed the CGI guys for putting it in the movie and they immediately started to axe any project in future that had anything remotely like a spider in it.

Now the original design for AMEE was actually a mechanical spider. But when Wild Wild West tanked, they got fucking SCARED because suddenly, Spiders were BOX OFFICE POISON. So even though they'd spent years making AMEE, the studio issued a KILL THE SPIDER order that required the VFX team to redesign AMEE again from scratch at the last moment. All that anyone could talk about was Wild Wild West and that fucking dismal failure of a Mechanical Spider that was blamed for killing the movie.

In the end, nobody could come up with an acceptable head for AMEE. So in a fit of decency, they hired a friend of mine and fellow artist named Ron Cobb (Star Wars, Alien etc) to design JUST the head of the robot. They paid him $500,000.00 just for designing the head. Nice. Didn't make the movie any better although I liked AMEE's design.

He was only listed as an "executive producer" and it is only because he had to be.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/man-steel-how-jon-peters-570675

>When it came time for Man of Steel, a source says Warners initially tried to cut out Peters, claiming the movie would be new and not a remake, but the studio eventually agreed to include him. And because of Peters' previous deals, the financial terms were A-list: seven figures up front plus a slice of backend.

>Peters had additional leverage. Sources say that under his deal, he stood to receive a "produced by" credit, but because Warners didn't want him to take an active role, it engaged in a separate negotiation that resulted in Peters taking an executive producer credit -- and keeping his backend. "We had a number of producers on the movie," explains Warners film chief Jeff Robinov. "Knowing what my expectations were for Jon's services, I asked him to take the role of executive producer, and he agreed."

>A source close to Peters says he was not allowed on the set, which left him "very disappointed," adding, "Ego-wise, it was a blow for him." But Warners disputes the notion that Peters was banned and insists he was invited to the premiere, but he couldn't attend because he was having surgery.

I heared of hollywood doing retarded shit like this before. Like after that Mars needs Moms movie bombed, they figrered any movie with the word "mars" in the title was poison.

Not the fact that it was some shitty gay kids movie, no, because mars was in the title. Thats Why that John Carter on Mars was renamed to John Carter
>>
Why was this movie so hated, or still is? Reminds me of Waterworld or Show Girls. What is it with average movies that can be actually quite entertaining and even do some great things randomly creating a hype and waves of memes with people acting like they're the worst movies ever made?

What was the last movie that did this? The new Terminator?
