Purple man started of great, but they lost focus. He was fine in the first few episodes, he made sense, but then he wanted to play house and his motivations did 180. Ok fine, but stick with it. They didn't and he did another 180.
The character was inconsistent as fuck, he wasn't driving the plot forward after around episode 5, the plot was dictating his actions instead to fit the script.
I don't know, maybe the show was too long and they didn't know how to fill 13 episodes, but characterization and motivations of most characters fall apart by the half-point and they don't recover.
