Which trilogy is worse?
The Hobbit.
The Hobbit is WAY worse.
The prequels are incredibly enjoyable, the Hobbit films are complete garbage.
>>62947675
why the fuck couldn't they actually act this scene out
none of the technology prevents it
>>62947675
...why would you even greenscreen a perfectly mundane scene like this?
>>62947618
The Hobbit trilogy. The Star Wars prequels, no matter how bad they are, are at least 3 separate films.
>>62947618
hard to say.
Hobbit = 3 average movies
PT = 1 really bad, 1 average and 1 "good" movie
The prequels. The Hobbit had good scenes that were more than flashing lights, and the first one was literally a decent movie.
Star Wars is far worse simply because it destroys the original Star Wars trilogy.
Hobbit is shit but it doesnt damage LOTR in any way.
>>62947749
If can't tell you're fucking dumb.
(ian mckellen is not a giant)
Prequels.
Atleast P.J actually knows The Hobbit was a fucking mess.
>>62947749
they had two sets for everything, one giant set for the dwarves, one regular set for the humans
>>62947618
Hobbit: 3 horrible movies
Prequels: 1 Horrible movie, 1 bad movie and 1 average one.
>>62947812
all 6 movies do such a bad job at maintaining the perspective scale. I constantly forget that the hobbits are supposed to be like 3 feet tall, and I didn't even know the dwarves were supposed to be roughly the same height as a hobbit
>>62947879
>Seperate but equal
you can probably edit the hobbit movies into one watchable one
nothing about the prequels is watchable
>>62947618
The prequels are still Star Wars, just badly written. The Hobbit trilogy was badly written and it didn't even feel like Jackson made it, not very entertaining. Unexpected Journey was the only relatively good movie from Hobbit, while TPM and RotS were both pretty entertaining.
>>62947917
>nothing about the prequels is watchable
We found the faggot
The Hobbit is better, Star Wars is more enjoyable.
the Hobbit got a few things right, like the dwarves at Bag End, the meeting of Bilbo and Gollum. Smaug the Dragon the Spiders in the Forest.
Star Wars prequels however just shat on everything good about Star Wars.
The Hobbit, LoTR was actually a good trilogy whilst the original Star Wars was complete trash that gets by because by pop culture osmosis, so the prequels weren't nearly as disappointing.
Hobbit
ROTS was alright
>>62947727
Shooting in 3D broke the practical illusory techniques that allowed the producers to fake Gandlaf being bigger than the Hobbits.
Star wars has provided epic memes for over a decade
Hobbit had no memes at all
>>62947773
>Hobbit = 3 average movies
>average
>not total shit
>>62947773
nah dude five armies is way below average
>>62947618
>Those stupid fucking Hobbit posters
We get it, Hobbits are small. Dwarves are small. But why the fuck put Bard in the same shot? Why use Bard at all? Why put Smaug on the cover when he's in it for like 10 minutes?
>>62947618
I actually could sit through the Star Wars prequels again, I couldn't even finish the second Hobbit film..
>>62947749
Creating forced-perspective sets that move takes a lot of time, work, and planning. You had to have your shots planned out EXACTLY.
Jackson rushed the whole trilogy and didn't want to take the time. So, green screen separate sets and composite it together.
Ian McKellen was in the greenroom because he's the strongest actor, and thus the least likely to look totally wooden talking to picture cutouts of actor faces.
>>62948560
>rots 8/10
Are you fucking kidding me? Did people really lower their expectations that low?
>>62948560
from the critic scores
Hobbit total = 198
Star Wars = 200
the audience score
Hobbit = 243
Star Wars = 184
>>62947618
The third Hobbit poster is full of fucking shit.
>Bilbo not even near Smaug after the second film
>Smaug dies within 15 minutes of the film's opening
They ruined everything by stretching one small book out with all this filler garbage.
>>62948560
Why is star wars judged by battery life?
>>62948639
it's 7.3/10
>>62948560
How the fuck does Attack of the Clones have such a high rating? It was way worse than the Phantom Menace.
>>62948757
yeah but the audience score doesn't lie
critics aren't reliable
The Hobbit. The Star Wars prequels weren't particularly bad, they were just a massive let down. The Hobbit's just a cash cow for the Jews that no one wanted to exist.
>>62947773
The Five Armies was dog shit, mate. One of the most forgettable movies I've ever seen.
>>62947788
>doesnt damage LOTR
>btw elves can defy physics now
>>62947618
The Hobbit.
The prequels aren't great, but they are enjoyable from time to time.
I don't think I could ever bring myself to rewatch the hobbit movies.
>>62947788
yeah but it totally shits all over the source material whereas star wars itself doesn't have any source material that it can damage. that makes the hobbit more offensive in my book, even though as movies they are significantly better than the prequels
>>62947618
The SW prequels are entertainingly stupid. The Hobbit trilogy is just bland.
>Go north. Find the Dunedain. There’s a young ranger amongst them. You should meet him. His father Arathorn was a good friend. His son might grow to be a great one. He is known in the wild as Strider. His true name... you must discover for yourself. Legolas! Your mother loved you.
>>62947618
attack of the clones and episode 3 are great...especially 3 i can understand the hate because of phantom menace but as long time star wars fan i somewhat enjoyed it plus liam neesons is my shit
hobbit movies meh bland shit
>>62949357
>attack of the clones
>great
>>62949052
did that happen?
>>62949357
attack of the clones is a borderline ''so-bad-it's-good'' cult movie. it is not great in any way except ironically.
All the good moments of The Hobbit are scenes that you connect to LOTR, like the Shire comfyness and the ending with Frodo and Bilbo.
>>62948560
>ROTS
>User ratings: 33,672,662
More people rated that one than the other 5 movies combined?
>>62947618
the hobbit was pretty bad but the prequels are shit
episode 2 is the worst movie i've ever seen
>>62949612
unfortunately
>>62949052
>tfw when watching the BOTFA,the dragon attacking Lake Town was great, Dol Guldor was also great imo, and all I could think was: 'maybe I shouldn't have lowered my expectations, maybe this movie will be great!'
Then the rest of the film happens.
Biggest punches in the face for me:
>THE WORMS
>Legolas kills Bolg, not Beorn
>' His true name... you must discover for yourself. Legolas'
;_;
I liked smaugs voice tho
Compared to LOTR, the Hobbit trilogy is a bloated, boring mess
Compared to the Star Wars prequels, the Hobbit trilogy are three of the finest films ever made
Hobbit 1:
>A fairly average movie with some bad moments that sometimes shits over the source material and has a couple of great moments.
Hobbit 2:
>A pretty bad movie with some truly shit moments that shits all over the source material and has a couple of great moments.
Hobbit 3:
>A shit movie that drags on and REALLY shits all over the source material, has an OK ending.
Prequel 1:
>A shit movie that drags on and shits all over the OT and has one well-designed villain.
Prequel 2:
>A shit movie that drags on and continues to shit all over the OT and has some interesting villains.
Prequel 3:
>A really bad movie with some OK moments, but is comparatively so much better than the other two that it seems good.
Prequels are worse, but neither of them are really good. I'm actually amazed that people here are calling the Prequels entertaining, they're some of the most boring movies I've ever seen, although BotFA is right up there with them. /tv/ memes don't somehow make the movies good.
>>62947618
TPM<Hobbit 1
AOTC=Hobbit 2
ROTS>>>>Hobbit 3
>>62948045
>Implying The Hobbit didn't shit all of over LOTR and The Hobbit book.
>Forced love triangle
>Wereworms
>Villians for the sake of villainry
>Alfrid
>CGI Dain
>Elves jumping over a pikeline of dwarves
>They were bred for one purpose...
>>62947618
Honestly I think I'm the only one that finds the Lord of the Rings Triology to be extremely boring.
The first movie is okay, but the second 2 are just mediocre, same with the original star wars films but the 2nd one is just okay.
These films aren't even very fun to watch, and this is comming from someone that grew up with both of them and has seem them multipul times. (I even saw the entire LOTR triology in one day.)
>>62951899
I'm guessing Rotten Tomatoes didn't existed/was far less popular when first two movies were out so their scores are mostly backtracking.
>>62952744
>AOTC=DOS
Have you ever read an opinion so fucking baffling that you had to fully shut down your computer, leave your house, lock the door behind you and go for a walk for an hour?
>>62952998
you must be new here if that is the first that happen to you.
>>62947618
Prequels. I swear most people here haven't seen them, or didn't see them when they first came out. They were the greatest disappointment in cinematic history.
>>62947721
See this is what I'm talking about. Most the prequels are just filled with boring assholes talking with the occasional meme scene here and there. There's nothing enjoyable about them.
Bad story vs terrible CGI. Tough call.
>>62947618
The Hobbit
>>62952998
Yes they're both equally shit
>>62953129
not sure what is what
>>62953129
I honestly can't tell which you are referring to. Both would fit both category.
Good job.
>>62952912
You're not the only one. I've always found LOTR extremely overrated and uninteresting.
Still love Star Wars, but now the dialogue comes of as way more simple and theatrical. Like a kids movie. and the comedic relief moments are more grating than actually funny.
>>62948560
wake me up
can't wake up
>>62954054
JUST cgi it
Star Wars definitely. The hobbit was at least entertaining. The prequels were boring as fuck.
>>62948560
I find Revenge of the sith to be the worst one of the three, nothing makes me want to watch that one, Phantom menace and aotc are alright though.
Would probably go
AoTC>>Phantom Menace>>>>>>>>Revenge of the Sith
>>62953108
Screw you, hobbit fucker.
LotR fans are delusional hipster faggots.
Prequels aren't as great as the OT, but they're still pretty good.
>>62949052
>>62949612
>>62952265
>>62952340
apart from the heavy exposition dump, why would Legolas need to discover his name by himself?
I mean he already told him the name of his father, woudln't that give away all the secrecy there is to it?
>watched lotr dozens and dozens and dozens of times
>watched the AUJ 4 times, theatrical and extended version at home and 2 times at cinema
>watched the DOS 3 times, same as AUJ and 1 at cinema
>watched BOTFA 2 times at cinema, plan to watch the extended version and that's it
I'm fucking pissed
>>62947618
The Disney Wars trilogy
>>62954488
yeah it's pretty fucking dumb. you'd think the son of an elf king who's already hundreds of years old would know enough about the history of numenor and its bloodline
>>62948593
>Ian McKellen was in the greenroom because he's the strongest actor, and thus the least likely to look totally wooden talking to picture cutouts of actor faces.
THat's bull and you know it. The real set is built to hobbit-size (Bigger, to make actors appear smaller) and the dwarves and Bilbo fit in exactly. Gandalf is the only one that's supposed to stand out as a lifesize human (or Istari). So instead of having to composite 13 people into a shot of Gandalf sitting at a smaller set, they did it the other way round.
>>62947675
After seeing that behind the scenes thing about how PJ was always frazzled by the entire movies being put together last minute and going on no sleep it makes me laugh harder thinking about how frustrated he must have been trying to keep calm and polite to McKellen's whiny fit.
>>62954549
I was gonna call you a retard manchild for watching movies you don't even enjoy that many times, but then I realized I've probably seen every prequel movie like 5 times and I'm planning on rewatching them before TFA.
Why do we even go on living
>"I don't really have any respect for anyone who thinks those films are good," Pegg revealed. "They're not. They're a monumental misunderstanding of what the original three films are about. It's an exercise in utter infanticide ... like George Lucas killing his kid."
Reminder that if you like the prequels, you are not worthy of respect
>>62954685
Didn't enjoy the BOTFA, the other two were enjoyable.
LOTR is God-tier of course.
I fucking love the prequels. Fell asleep with The Hobbit
Sheev is better than all 3 hobbits put together
>>62947749
Forced perspective to make Gandalf seem like a giant.
>>62954697
He's playing a fucking alien in the film dude
>>62948639
Rotten Tomatoes shows the % of positive reviews. It means is that RotS got 73% that were at least 5/10, not that it's a 7.3/10 movie.
Prequels, because Lucas had all the time in the world to prepare for them whereas Hackson didnt have almost any time to prepare for hobbit
>>62954697
>Simon Pegg
literally who
Hobbits because they don't have enough memes.
Sheev leaving a trail of asses in his wake and laughing like a dudeweedlmao then entire time was glorious. Plus the prequels had a top-tier score that almost redeems their existence.
>>62954697
>Simon 'Nerd culture is designed and propogated by corporations' Pegg
>Simon 'I'm in MI and Star Trek and would kill to be in Star Wars' Pegg
>Simon 'least funny part of movies' Pegg
Simon is a faggot. I grew up the with the prequels, and while I totally recognize they're not like the OT, they're enjoyable in some ways, when I'm in a certain mood. This overacting manlet should shut his cakehole.
>>62955085
>>Simon 'Nerd culture is designed and propogated by corporations' Pegg
is that incorrect?
>>62955104
The two posts go together. He is a hypocrite. He was chastising people for buying into it, when he makes his living from the people buying tickets to movies he's a part of.
No, that's not incorrect.
>>62954823
about the same size tho
>>62955153
oh. i feel retarded now
duh
>>62955187
Don't. That's for Simon to feel.
You know, when he reads my post after he does his nightly lurking of /tv/
>>62955085
MI is supposed to be nerd culture now?
>>62955198
Every time I watch this, I hear the SMB2 theme.
>>62955085
>>62955198
This will never not be funny. The way he looks down at 0:06-0:07 i fucking hilarious
I can sort-of watch the prequels if they're on TV. Other than the first one, I came out of the theater hoping I never had to see the hobbit films again.
>>62949052
> I wish I could wish away these feelings
>>62955021
Um... the prequels and Episode 7 are not the same thing anon.
>>62947618
Seems to me that the big isue with The Hobbit is the cgi, whereas Star Wars was shitty all the way. But I skipped The Hobbit movies, so I'm just speculating.
Prequels are better. At least they are rewatchable.
Ep 1 was meme supreme material. Its honestly enjoyable to hate and make fun of.
Ep 2 was pretty boring but padme was ultimate fap material in that movie.
Ep3 had the best action of all 3. Padme got preggo and ugly, but having Sheev back and watching irrelevant Jedi get killed off by clones was worth it.
Meanwhile, I try to forget the Hobbit trilogy.
>>62955620
>why does it hurt so much?
>>62955720
Star wars CGI was much worse. At least some things were real in the hobbit
>>62952631
It's as simple as that.
>>62956429
bullshit
http://boards.theforce.net/threads/practical-effects-in-the-prequels-sets-pictures-models-etc.50017310/
the hobbit is a green-screen nightmare compared to the prequels
lol this movie.
>>62956820
>we've seen bombur bumbling around but we've never seen him fight
>but now we get to see him bust out of that little barrell of his and go to town
>that's something everyone's been waiting for
>>62948926
Legolas did stupid unrealistic shit in LOTR
>>62947618
The Hobbit trilogy because it's three films of nothing. At least they tried, and fucked up horribly, with the Prequels.
>>62947618
The Hobbit, it has provided zero exploitable memes except 'Why are we doing my scenes first' and we're still talking about the prequels like 20 years later as if they were kino absolüt.
prequels gave us glorious memes, thus becoming so bad it's good.
>sheev
>now this is podracing
>le high ground
>le no match for droidekas
>le communications jam
hobbit is just shit.
>>62948926
they always have
>>62948593
>Jackson rushed the whole trilogy and didn't want to take the time. So, green screen separate sets and composite it together.
It was recently revealed that because Del Toro dropped out later in pre-production, jackson was given very little time to design the movie. It's warner brother's fault the movie was rushed.
>>62956406
because george lucas is a hack
