Colbert has slipped to third place.

What happened?
>>
Two other shows surpassed his ratings.
>>
>>62926035
He was funny as a pretend conservative.

Not so much as an actual liberal.

Still he's doing better than Larry Wilmore. I think there's like 10 people still watching that show.
>>
I kind of figured he'd flounder and it seems like he's on the way out already, but I can't really put a finger on why, exactly. Maybe late night talk is just saturated.
>>
>>62926035

Serious answer: CBS waiting to long to roll out his show. It should have came immediately or soon after Dave's departure. Half a year or whatever audiences time to settle into a groove with the Jimmys, Conan, whomever else.
>>
>>62926059
Thanks

He's too hyperactive and attention-seeking. He speaks over his guests and makes fun of all their serious points.

1-hes too liberal (and I say this as a Bernie Sanders supporting liberal) for CBS. It's fine and dandy to be liberal, Letterman was a liberal, but Letterman knew that he needed middle america. Colbert alienates them.

2-no second banana. It worked for the colbert report, but most late night shows are better with a sidekick. Colbert needs to play off a sidekick.

Ok.

But beyond your reactionary knee jerk response, what did you think of my answer.
>>

Poor Conan, but I can sort of see why. I mostly just watch his stuff on his Youtube channel like the Jordan Schlansky and Clueless Gamer segments, honestly there's just a lot of boring filler for show with a few really great segments sprinkled in between
>>
>>62926035
I assume he didn't bring his writers and also he has to appeal to a wider demographic.

>>
>>62927534
He's dropped because he's on a cable network, part of the reason.

Other reason is he's just gotten duller, and as you said, there's a lot of filler. His overseas trip shit he's done recently has been a lot funnier. He should do more of that stuff to get up in the ratings.

I guess there's a reason Vanilla is the most popular ice cream flavor as well.

>>

So is Fallon funny? Should I watch him?
>>
>>62926724
Yeah that whole drama was bullshit. Leno acted like a passive-aggressive fuckstick the whole time, and the NBC executives were retarded for enabling that and starting a pre-late late show and fucking the whole transition up in the first place.

>>62927549
>>62927406
How does it feel to be the biggest retard in a thread that has an admitted Bernie Sanders supporter? But atleast your viewer ratings are up.
>>
>>62927663

>>
Can't believe anyone watches Jimmy Falcon
>>
>>62926181
So, we all know the ratings, but which one do you guys think is the least funny/most annoying?
>>
>>62927663
Fallon is typical formulaic "celebrity entertainment" shit. It's purely safe comedy monologues and skits that take no creative risks or originality so that they can guarantee everybody likes it. Problem is, the result is shit. Not to mention Fallon is always faking his enthusiasm for a guest you can tell he doesn't care for.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7RE9_nmoLg
>>
The sort of people who watch these shows work shit jobs and lead shit lives.

They sit on their couches late at night watching tv to forget about the real world.

The last thing they want to see before slipping into unconsciousness is an ultra liberal comedian shouting political talk at them.

Fallon and Kimmel playing with puppies and telling fart jokes makes more sense

It's simple.

Colbert tried to take his brand of humor (punditry with jokes) and convert it into a Late Night show instead of the 11pm, 22 minute show format it's suited for.

Late Night shows are more humor, less opinions, Colbert is the opposite. And the established fanbase isn't going to support him forever, as that audience isn't the type to stay up that late for a TV show.

http://nypost.com/2015/11/21/colberts-late-show-has-become-propaganda-for-democrats/

Stephen Colbert turns out to be just as much of an a-hole as “Stephen Colbert.” Viewers have noticed.

After an initial burst of interest spurred by CBS’s big-bucks saturation advertising campaign for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the show’s ratings have tanked and it is now running third in late night behind NBC’s Jimmy Fallon and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel, who rarely has managed second place before.

The reason? A survey by the Hollywood Reporter found that conservative viewers are turning off Colbert in droves. Nearly twice as many Republicans are watching Kimmel as Colbert, who has turned “Late Night” into a sort of wannabe MSNBC show.

The pattern is familiar: When a Democrat is the guest, Colbert is Barbara Walters. When a Republican is on, he turns into Tim Russert.

Colbert is so unremittingly hostile to Republicans that he will shortly find conservative invitees declining to appear. (Except Ted Cruz, who would argue with a tree stump.) That means the Colbert show risks turning into an echo chamber in which viewers doze off as Colbert and his liberal guests beam lovingly at each other like a mother and child.

This can be a bit sick-making to watch. As The Atlantic put it, “Colbert said goodbye to Biden by practically pleading with him to run for president. With Cruz, there was no deadpan, and no praise. ‘I really appreciated you sharing your views with us,’ Colbert said, ‘and good luck with the campaign.’ ”
>>
>>62929477
The irony? Colbert's a registered Republican.

It's a real fucking shame about Conan. I regularly watch his shows and although the writing itself is C to B grade, the man himself is a walking comedy house of genius. His remotes are literally god-tier and everyone in this thread have to go watch his journey to Armenia.

The only actual worthy contender seems to be Kimmel from what I've heard.

Either way, I'M TEAM COCO UNTIL I DIE NIGGAS
>>
On CC, Democrats could laugh at him and Republicans could laugh with him.

On CBS, he's just another boring Democrat and far too smart for the plebs still watching late night.
>>
>>62930277

I agree. It's interesting that the 3 greatest talk show hosts (Letterman, Carson and Conan) all got fucked by NBC.

The network can not be trusted.

Carson never really got screwed over. I mean yeah, NBC literally pushed him out according to the insiders, but 30 years in an era that arguably was the most eventful and had the stars that literally influenced everything today, I'd say Carson got the best deal. He missed TTS and was mad but realized after a few years that the media went down to absolute shit and was happy he got out before it all happened.

Letterman got screwed, but he screwed himself. He's a genius and such, but he did a lot of jokes at NBC and fucked up at an awards ceremony that contributed to his general downfall over the years. He averaged roughly 7 million viewers for 2 years and then lost to Leno because his asshole schtick (which I personally love) didn't go well with a lot of people.

Conan on the otherhand had every single card stacked against him. The failing economy that made advertisers withdraw a lot of commercials, literal shit lead-in by Jay Leno (doesn't even make sense and shouldn't have happened), and the very short time he had to prove himself made him lose in the end.
>>
>>62927805
The real shame is I think there actually is a demographic for smarter, intellectually driven late night. I've watched old Carson and Jack Parr interviews and they're really interesting. But no network would dare put on something like that again as they treat the American public as idiots.

Conan O'Brien actually does these "Serious Jibber Jabber" segments for Youtube which I find to be insanely good. Just him talking to mostly to authors and historians.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STr9NtF6fco&list=PLVL8S3lUHf0TIbLusugli-_6OhbvqgMvD

Networks are probably right that few people would watch such stuff, but it makes me sad that pop culture has been dumbed down considerably with Jimmy Fallon having more in common with a clown than Johnny Carson.
