No it didn't. The very Northern parts were inhabited by some Finnic (not Finnish) tribes, but Novgorod was most certainly Slavic. The vikings didn't really enter much into Finland, due to us being even poorer than them - they did however recently find some evidence of them going up some rivers, and being cut off by chains on both sides and defeated. After the Scandinavians had became Christian another Finnic tribe, the Estonians, actually raided and burned down the recently founded Stockholm - so there was definitely some trade and raiding going both ways across the Baltic.

The last kingdom shows the different parties not understanding each other even though the actors speak English. The area names are first shown as what they were at the time, and then faded into what they are nowadays - to remind of the context.
So it can't be said that they speak perfect English, though HC's having accents makes it sound better.

As far as I know the vikings operating in modern Russia didnt get to fight much.
Basically they traveled along the rivers, settled a few camps that grew into big and wealthy towns, and from those towns grew the several russian states that one day became modern Russia.
