I'm fucking sold.
From the very opening, the show establishes itself as a pulpy neo-noir mystery, with a really fascinating superhero undercurrent. It's not really shown to it's full ability, at least not that I can tell, but that's what makes the show work: it's a mystery thriller first and a superhero show second.
Though we haven't seen David Tennant's character on screen, he's already extremely well-established through Jessica's flashback sequences: a sadistic pervert who can bend people to his will.
Jessica herself isn't even close to the "lol muh strong woman who don't need no man" trope so often ridiculed around these parts. She's broken, vulnerable, desperately outrunning her past.
All in all 10/10 first episode, sets everything up perfectly.

Well, these Netflix shows are toned down from the original Mature Readers comics. Well, Alias was. Miller's was an 80s Marvel book and Bendis's DD was a Marvel Knights book aimed at at least older teens.
Personally, they shoulda just labeled these Netflix shows as Marvel Knights. Hell, even Marvel Nights. Not that the regular movies are all kiddie, but these shows are slightly darker and less for kids.
