I just started watching this, can i skip around or is there a story building here?
Also which episodes are your favorite? I'm on episode 5 season 1, the production makes every episode look like a 90's movie and I love it.

There is a 'mytharc' story but it isn't really important. Most people prefer the MotW episodes.
Season One has fun 90s camp but the show definitely improves a lot before tapering off in the last two seasons

I just finished watching the first 4 seasons and the movie yesterday.
I didn't think the first movie was that bad, at least not by the X Files' standard.
Any problems I think were caused by the fact they were trying to squeeze too much into a 2 hour movie, when they could have actually fleshed out the same story in a 3 part episode as they would have normally done. The story itself wasn't anything you wouldn't expect from the X Files, and wasn't even a severe drop in quality. The film format seemed like just an excuse for a bigger budget.

Great early season one
The inclusion of direct references to Christian supernatural stuff (devils, demons, seraphs, God himself) has always struck me as interesting because it kinda divided the show's monsters into two categories. On the one hand you had that type of ghostly legendy stuff, but on the other hand you had the main theme of the show which was sci-fi aliens and cryptids.
If God/Satan/demons/angels are indeed real, which they seem to be within the show's universe, where do they stand versus the all-powerful threat of the aliens? Do the aliens know about god and satan?
It would be amusing if during colonization they just set loose all the Christian supernatural shit against all the sci-fi shit.

I was a fan of Syzygy. It usually gets panned for its portrayal of M&S but for me seeing them get to act out of character was fun, and it made sense within the episode's plot.
